MG TD TF 1500 - New Look?
Is it just my computer freaking out or is this a new look? I've just had a new modem installed as the other was the cause of my Outlook issues and I'm now presented with a lemon background. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I'm afraid that it must be a result of the 'Beta Testing'. I can not get the display that I had. And, I can not save the changes that I'm trying make in the new display. Bud |
Bud Krueger |
Last week the site has been updated for beter use on tablets and phones... Jasper |
Jasper Nederhoed TD3966 |
It's temporary, Mike has just told me choice of font and colour will return shortly - and now I've just informed you. :) |
Nigel Atkins |
Thanks, Nigel. Bud |
Bud Krueger |
I dislike it immensely. On my Iphone I cant gret back to the old format. Jim B. |
JA Benjamin |
I don't like it as well as the old style. I thought something was wrong with my computer as everything changed, hopefully it'll go back to the former setup. But that's just me. PJ |
PJ Jennings |
Also, I like reading a post in the descending mode and every time I invert it it won't stay there, if I read another post and come back it's in the ascending mode again. |
PJ Jennings |
Mine still has the newest at the top, on my PC. Still evaluation the "mobile" version, usually review the forum first thing in the morning. My $0.02 worth. Peter |
P G Gilvarry |
Clicking "invert" is temporary. You need to use "Customise" and "Order of messages within threads" to make a permanent change. I would prefer change requests and comments on the device responsive design changes in the "beta test" subject area please. I'll leave this thread here though. |
Mike Plumstead |
Mike I wasn't game to open the Beta Testing thing as I was unsure of what impact it would have. My knowledge of IT could be inscribed on the head of a pin with a jackhammer! And I suspect I'm not alone. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
My original understanding was that the Beta testing was for users on tablets/mobile devices.
I use the forum extensively on an iPad and as an IT guy it works for me. The major change I see in the normal forum is that each second post is “lemon” which does a great job of improving readability between posts. I read the forum each morning on my iPad and find it very usable, I do not use it on an iPhone, just too small for fat fingers. Thanks to the folks that look after the website, great job. Peter |
P G Gilvarry |
Only 22 subject headings now. Weren't there about 50 previously? I am guessing the unused ones bit the dust? I am a bit old fashioned and learn new stuff slowly so I don't like change, but it might work better without the deadwood. Was the previously unused "MG Motorsport" subject saved by recent YouTube etc additions? Bob |
R L Schapel |
The rationale is detailed in the "Beta Testing" area where we are trying to keep all of the design change threads. |
Mike Plumstead |
I'm still confused. I opened the beta testing thread but couldn't see the TD/TF section? I'm looking forward to having the old system returned as Nigel suggests will happen. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
I think it's fine Mike. As a software developer of over 30 years changes are rarely appreciated by users. Get used to it guys, it's fine! Ed |
efh Haskell |
Peter - the "Beta Testing" area is simply to comment on recent changes so that the model subject areas don't get cluttered. Continue to use the TD-TF area for model related items. I would just prefer not to hunt around in the BBS for problems with the web site. |
Mike Plumstead |
I think it's fine as well, and any improvement to make readability on tablets and smart phones is to be welcomed. The majority of the readers of our newsletter read it on these devices in preference to PCs. David |

Peter TD 5801,
if it's just that the BBS doesn't look the same then it might be you just need to return the settings to how they were previously which is very easy. At the top of this page on the right side (second in) is a link called 'Customise' just click on that. Doing so will take you to a page where you can select your choices of Fonts, Colour Scheme, ect.. Make your choices and then press the 'Save options' button at the bottom of the page. This will take you to the subject page, click into your 'T Series TD-TF' and into a thread of your choice to check the settings are as you wanted to select and if not go back into 'Customise' and change as you prefer. Well that's how it works on my PC anyway. I've no idea about these devices you can carry around, though I suspect most of here are on tablets. :) |
Nigel Atkins |
Thanks Nigel. I just access the BBS on my PC and use my old reliable Nokia for making and receiving mobile calls and texts. I don't use apps. I'll try and have the TD/TF thread present as it did by using the customise suggestions you've made. Was anybody else able to get it back to the way it was? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
This has nothing to do with "apps". It's just a web page. |
efh Haskell |
I think by "apps", he means he doesn't use his phone for anything but calls. In other words, no web browser apps.
I posted this in the Beta section but I'll post it here again in case it helps anyone. Here are my preferences for customization... Fonts: Verdana Large Color scheme: Green (second choice white / grey) Default list: Thread Tabular layout: Use Tabular Layout Order of messages within threads: Earliest at the top When I click on a message in the message list: Take me to that message within the thread View other users pictures: Yes View images within posts in-line: Yes Display a link to a summary of my vehicles with my posts: Yes Show 'Likes': Yes |
Steve Simmons |
Thanks Steve. That's exactly what I meant. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

It is NOT the same, why should it be? It is updated, it is new, it works, for goodness sake it is a webpage, read the posts, stop whining about stuff that ain’t broke.
Actually is eminently more readable, thank you to the poor suffering web master making this work, it is free. What do people really want, I am using this daily on an iPad and a PC, I have not changed or updated my bookmarks. Log off, log back on, clear the cache on your browser, nothing is broken. I have spent the last 10 years in IT support, it is a PEBKAC error. Google that error. Good night. |
P G Gilvarry |
Only use it on my computer and I like it better. :-) |
Christopher Couper |
If the software is updated and users find problems in using it then the issue is with the software update - not the user. User's views are important - no users, no need for the software ... IT professionals sometimes lose sight of the reason the software exists in preference to what they can make it do. The PEBKAC comment is uncalled for. |
Chris at Octarine Services |
I agree Chris. This isn't the 1st time the poster in question has used abbreviations to ridicule. I've again called him out to the site admin officer, Mike Plumstead. His arrogance is both unwarranted and unwelcome. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
PEBKAC error- Funniest thing I have heard in a while! That is great, never heard that one before. Having spent hours of my life dealing with software changes, horrible and glitch filled non-user friendly Apple and MS required updates and such, this is nothing. It is amazing the amazing repository of MG knowledge on this site is free and has been around for many years. I appreciate any and all efforts to modernize and update by the webmaster. George |
George Butz III |
I Googled the word 'support' Google returned - - give assistance to and 'assistance' gave - - the provision of money, resources, or information to help someone and 'help' gave - - make it easier or possible for (someone) to do something by offering them one's services or resources and 'easier' gave - - without difficulty or effort and 'difficulty' gave - - a thing that is hard to accomplish, deal with, or understand HTH. :) |
Nigel Atkins |
It is not funny - it is demeaning, derogatory and unacceptable. |
Chris at Octarine Services |
I am really pleased with this update as we can now send tables without having the multi spaces removed. e.g. TABLE 1/ Horn Push 31269 31262 Button and cover 380737 380737 Contact mount or shell 380722 380722 Base insulating 380731 380731 John |

I started to write yet another comment re PG again last night. I also took offense to the synonym and the tone of his post. I’m glad others took the lead to comment on the behavior or lack thereof. |

I guess I'm old enough to remember that when MG went from the 19" wire wheeled, bumperless, wooden dashed TC to the 15" solid wheeled, bumpered, rexine dashed TD, the sports car world was aghast. I suppose that same emotion applies to web sites. Although I've been know to exclaim that the three most terrifying words are "new and improved," I'm just so glad this resource is here that I don't care if it's repainted John Deere green and yellow. Many years ago in a land far away a friend and I administered a BBS called AVGAS for aviation related chat.
The software we used was written by a student in Computer Science. Almost every Sunday night we updated to software to his latest development version. His Polytechnic Professor had access so they could grade his work. At the time computer screens were black with green writing limited to 80 characters per line and there were no pictures or graphics. No one ever complained about the upgrades, they were just so grateful to be able to be on the cutting edge of technology at the time. By the way, we used dialup lines to connect, we had 2 Apple II PCs running this in separate locations. The machines synced every 6 hours so it was conceivable your post may not have been seen for another 6 hours. But, it was a forerunner to what we have here, today communications are worldwide and immediate, the Admin does a great job in bringing us this BBS for free, free, think about that. It is free. Maybe we need to just be grateful for what we have, I am sure Mike would like to see a few “thank you” comments and a little gratitude. Get back to the spirit of the BBS, a place where a question can be asked, an answer can be obtained freely without any consideration. There are no stupid questions, somebody has the answer somewhere and will generally freely share that information. Ask away, please, sometime in the future somebody will have the same question and find it when searching the archives and get the answer you got. It is encouraging to find most folk have been able to adapt to change, the others will catch up, just takes time. Enjoy the BBS, join in in the spirit it is/was intended. |
P G Gilvarry |
Well, I can only say that the improvements I've seen are very good indeed - kudos to our webmaster. |
Kevin McLemore |
Agreed, well done. |
