MG TD TF 1500 - New Old Spin on oil filter

I am looking at the spin on oil filter system that is on the market that looks identical to the original disposable early TD filter, but actually has a spin on filter inside.

Anyone used this? https://mossmotors.com/spin-on-filter-conversion

I also note the NTG has this for a lot less.

Anyone know if the disposable is available from anyone?

Bruce,
Peter Edney offers this filter

It looks the same as the NTG one.
Check the postage though. NTG's products are good but their postage usually requires taking out a second mortgage on your house!

Clever, but really expensive. I use the standard spin-on as sold by Grunau and Taras and once painted, most people will never notice it isn't stock. To keep up the illusion you do have to paint the filter each time you change it though.

Bruce. There is one of those conversions being offered on eBay which looks like the Edney style. First time I’ve seen that style with the hidden spin on. I have the Billet type spin n on adapter from Bob G______ and I very happy with it. I have also have the last style that Moss offered that took the canister filters. I have it on dad’s car temporarily but will likely change it out for a spin on as well. Probably have a half dozen spare filters to fit it also.

Bruce. There is one of those conversions being offered on eBay which looks like the Edney style listed at $200 🇺🇸 . First time I’ve seen that style with the hidden spin on. I have the Billet type spin n on adapter from Bob Grenau (Sp? Sorry Bob) and I’m very happy with it. I also have the last style that Moss offered that took the canister filters. I have it on dad’s car temporarily but will likely change it out for a spin on as well. Probably have a half dozen spare filters to fit it also. I like the look as it is a close look to the originals but the drawback for me is that they are messy to change.

From the Frame Up lists what I think is the same one for $179. I think it comes with a Purolator decal and instructions for the correct original paint color. The only problem that may be specific to my car is that it fouled the clutch linkage when screwing the bottom half on. I either had to remove the linkage or the entire filter, forgot which I did. Looks great however. George

The real issue with the canister type isn't the mess, it's the cost of replacement media! The new hidden spin-on type seems to have replaced the canister version. I just gave away one of those canister types recently to a friend who planned to use it until he realized it was cheaper to get a spin-on adapter than to buy 2 or 3 replacement elements for the other one.

I currently have a spin on adapter but as my goal is to restore my car as close as I can to original, This would give me the best of both worlds.

Looking at From the Frame Up, it looks like they do have the original for $129 and this unit. Their price is a heck of a lot better than Moss. Moss has this for $290. The Frame up is probably less than shipping from the UK.

I did note that NTG says they have to charge VAT, but you can get it back with the customs slip. I have not discussed their shipping prices. Will check into that.

Bruce,
Take your heart tablets and be sure to be seated when you check the NTG postage. If they quote 10 pounds for a warning light bezel to Germany, I would hate to think what the filter canister to USA would cost.
