MG TD TF 1500 - Nice TD V8 Conversion
I saw a well done V8 '52 TD in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario on Sunday. Don't know if it was at the Ontario MG T Register's "GOOF 98" in Guelph (approx. 130 miles away.)
Nice tight fit to the firewall. Three knuckles on the steering shaft to clear the exhaust headers. Looks like the original rack & pinion steering. Original tach and speedo. And best of all ... three pedals. And even better ... original accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals. I'm a purist, but I admire this conversion. We're back home from NY and Canada -- now back to work on TF7211 restoration. Lonnie TF7211 ![]() |

lONNIE, Looks like a nice car. Did you check and see what he used for running gear. Those wheels look like an old Ford???. Car looks nice but that pinstripe is way too much. Sandy |

I believe they were after market wheels sold back in the late 50s, not 35 ford, bolt patter to fit T series Brit cars with disk wheels. |

Yeah, I don't think they're Ford wheels The Ford wheels had welded spokes that fascinate me how they did that, you just can't see the welds at all The wheels on that TD have nipples |

Closeup of the wheels. I didn't look at the brakes / hubs. Lonnie TF7211 ![]() |

"Toys" inside. Multi-sound horn, other sound equipment, microphone, CB(?), etc. Is that a heater with two doors? Lonnie TF7211 ![]() |

Rear. >> Sandy - Not a small block Chevy. Maybe a Ford engine? I didn't see the gearbox. The floor is flatter than with a TD gearbox. Shifter fits nicely. Interior has about the same space as with MG engine/gearbox. Possibly MG rack & pinion steering. The diff is round, not an MG diff. Didn't look at carb / injectors. Height and track look good. Definitely a SBF |

Here’s another one. Highly modified. http://www.britishv8.org/MG/EdLaBrush-MG-TD.htm Not sure how one of these beasts would handle with all that power and change in CG. Stuart |

I wonder how a Daimler 2.5 liter hemi head V8 would fit and what it would weigh. Looks for all the world like a 5/8th scale Chrysler Hemi. And it used SU carbs!

John Is that an SP250? Never heard of it before until I looked up the 2.5 V8 you mentioned. Looks nice, kind of TR4 ish. Stuart |

Yes, a Daimler SP250 sports car. And yes there were some parts such as instrumentation borrowed from Triumph. Known for double deck buses and other cars, Daimler was acquired by Jaguar Cars in the early 1960s. They produced various cars such as the SP250 which was also known as the Dart until Chrysler objected. This 2.5 liter V8 was designed by Edward Turner and was, for a number of years fitted to the Jaguar Mark II body and called the Daimler 250 V8. There was also a much larger car, the Majestic Major, that used a larger 4.4 liter hemi V8. We often see the SP250 cars and 250 sedans at various British car meets.![]() |

And the best I can do to illustrate selected other Daimlers are these from my 43rd scale collection.
