MG TD TF 1500 - No expert. Identify a part.
I purchased a complete block that was in a MG TD MK II. Please look at the picture below and could you please tell me if these are normal pistons. It is a actual OEM block for that car according to the VIN plate. It may have been reworked over the years. Also how can you identify a competition clutch from a standard one? I believe the head or block was shaved since the block had two head gaskets when I took off the head and left it with the seller. It had the larger valves like a MK II should have had. Thanks for the help. Joe ![]() |

Not stock, domed to provide higher compression. Probably why you found two head gasket. Photo of clutch? |

Gene I do not have the clutch taken apart. Will a extra picture help? Joe |

Those are Hepolite high compression pistons. Should take you up to approximately 9:1 in standard bore. |

Back in the day, those pistons were advertised to raise the compression 12 to 1. P/12300 Way too high for anything but all out racing. Note: Gene's comment about using two head gaskets. Clutch pressure plate appears to be standard Borg & Beck. |

XPAG TD2/15140. Starting with TD2/9408 engine came with new flywheel with 8" clutch attached, and the 6 quart sump began on TD2/14948, integral oil pump and filter housing began TD2/14224. |

Tom that's the TDC I was trying to buy. Owner decided to cut the car up Very disappointed that he chose that route rather than sell it whole. The greed of money. |

Bill could you tell us about the history of that car as far as you know. Was it used as a competition racer in CA. It had been in AZ for many years before it was sold recently. It did have black CA plates on it. I would really like to know the CA history since I now own the engine. Thanks Joe |

I had a competiton clutch in a TD at one time. It had 9 springs instead of 6 springs. Forrest TDC/22679 |
