MG TD TF 1500 - No New MG Sportscar Soon
Say it ain't so. http://www.justbritish.com/no-new-mg-sportscar-soon/ |

Yes, and the MG marque is now made in China. Sad to see. |

Should have let it die when BL took over. Could have retained some dignity. |

Isn't the design group still in the UK? |
Christopher Couper |
Yes it is, Chris; and they do a "final assembly" in England; but I suspect that just means they attach the side mirrors and it's good to go. The Mazda Miata was designed by a California company but that doesn't make it an American car, either :) |
Geoffrey M Baker |
Such a good analogy, Geoffrey. |

MG transformed in 1953 when absorbed in to BMC, The emblem changed from cream and bronze to black and white. MG changed again when transformed in to British Leyland in 1968. MG ceased to exist in 1981, when the company was not supported by Margret Thatcher's conservative government, and the company was liquidated. Soon after everything was sold off the plant was demolished. MG survives today in name only. Oh, by the way, I have an all original axe that has been in my family for years. I've only replaced the handle five times and the head twice... |

But would you allow this lovely in your garage? OK I know about the beauty standing beside it, but the car guys, the car! LOL. PJ![]() |

MG is Chinese owned but even they've offshored production to Thailand...! At least for the RHD models, the lefthookers might still be done in "home" China/SAIC http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2015/small-passenger/mg/mg-shifts-right-50152 |

Looks like someone stuffed a high pressure hose in a Mini Coopers ar*e. |

Well except for a Tesla, there are probably few (no?) US cars solely made in the US anymore. Components come from all over the world. And the automotive world does not think Tesla's are cars anyway so ... Its a different world than it was 60 years ago. |

Paul, that MG Icon concept SUV won the Best Concept award in Beijing a few years ago. I like the look and the way that it evokes so much from MGs of years past. The grille from the B's and the rear fenders reminiscent of the T-series along with tail lights like the early TDs. http://www.carbodydesign.com/2012/04/mg-icon-concept-wins-best-concept-award/ BobbyG |

Ugliest thing ever to wear an MG badge, that's for sure. So out of proportion from every angle. The word "flow" probably doesn't exist wherever it was made. |
Steve Simmons |
Ah, come on Steve, it has a mean look to it and it is the 21st century! Bet it would get a lot of attention. LOL. PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
What if it had a Kia badge. Or Toyota? Would you still like it? To each their own and all that, I just think it's not an attractive design. |
Steve Simmons |
To be perfectly honest, when they started making the new style TF I lost interest. And I still can't understand why they named it a TF! About as far from a real TF as you can get. PJ |

"and it is the 21st century!" That says it all. There are great looking and performing 21st century cars being made and I suspect that most of us own one or more for when we need to get from A to B. IMHO, that's not what MGs are about. Like the difference between a motor boat and a sail boat - if you need to get from A to B, take the motor boat; if you want to enjoy getting from A to B, take the sail boat. For going to the Blue Ridge Parkway today for no reason other than the enjoyment of the drive I took my '53 TD, not my more comfortable, more powerful, better suspended, A/Ced, more fuel efficient Taurus SHO. BTW, 176 miles mostly windy twisty up hill in 2nd and 3rd and I burned less than a pint of oil, lost no coolant and got right at 25 mpg. Not too shabby for a 62 year old car. Love you all. Jud |

When I need to get anywhere, I drive an M.G. (or an 90 year old Ford truck). I don't own anything else. Well, unless you count the wife's car but I try to never drive that boring appliance. I can count the number of modern cars I would own on one hand. Admittedly I'm not normal, but generally speaking modern cars just don't do anything for me. |
