MG TD TF 1500 - Number of Spokes
To finally remove all temptation to fit wire wheels to my TF I am going to the sell the wire wheels I have in the back of the garage. However I now find that one of them has 48 spokes and the others 60. Which is correct for a TF? Happy Christmas to all Jan T |

48 spokes were original, but 60 are better. Dave H |

72 is even better. |

72 doesn't look right on a T type. Dave H |

The 48's would be as original but I have learned the hard way that 60 is a much better choice. 72 is overkill unless you plan to do off road rallye racing or trials. 60 spokes ![]() |

The original wheels on my TF were 48 spokes, the new wheels are 60 and tubeless. PJ |

48 spokes looks best. 60 may give you a false sense of security, and 72 is just silly-busy unless you are doing full-on racing or something. If you pop spokes in a street car you either had mal-adjusted wheels (spokes) or pushed the car too hard. You can actually race the piss out of stock 48 spoke wheels (even TC 19" ones) and not pop spokes, but everything needs to be set up just right. Race it piss-hard +1 and ping ping ping ping pop the spokes (48, 60 or 72). |

I drive em hard.....never broke a spoke on the 60 spoke MGB wheels...broke more than I care to count on the TF 48 spoke wheels. Maybe I'll put a set of these on it
