MG TD TF 1500 - OCALA GOF
Does anyone have a picture of the three German made MG-TD's that were shown at the Ocala GOF last weekend. I have seperate photos but with memory loss and other ailments I forgot to get a picture of the three together. Sandy Sanders esane@msn.com |

Great pic. The one in the center belongs to my next door neighbor. His S/N is 8872 and the "barn find" is S/N 8873. What are the chances of the two cars side by side some 65 years later?? I never knew his was manufactured in Germany. In fact I never knew any of them were made in Germany. The best I did was discovering my 79 MGB was built April 3-4, 1979. My birthday is April 2nd. George, This is a very special pic. 3 of only 4 known survived German TD's together on one picture. The 4th resides in Holland and couldn't make it to the GOF... ;-) Thanks for posting! Jasper |

There used to be another black MG-TD with German tags on it. It was owned by Don/Jan Macleod of Jacksonville Florida.I have been trying to find them for over 30 years now. Don was employed at the port in Jacksonvill and was employed as a customs agent. One night his duty finished late in the early morning. He had been checking young chickens. He lived a few miles from dockside and it was a dirty rainy drive home in his MG-TD.On arriving home he found a chicked stuck to his grill. They kept the bird and even trained it to walk with a leash.Several months later a KILLER RACOON ended HENNY's life. ------------------------------------------ I sent this to Moss Motors and it was published in their newslettr. ----------------------------------------- Twas a dark and stormy night when HENNY out of fright flew over the hill stuck to his grill and rode home on his TD that night. There was a black TD at the G.O.F. S/N 7888 also. I'm sure now that two sequential S/N cars have been found and displayed side by side the value of each has increased. Cheers Gary 79 MGB |

George, could I have your permission to post your photo on the T Register's Facebook Page? We have a article on there - https://www.facebook.com/mgtregister/posts/564060473775866) on these TDs courtesy of the MG Club do Brasil and your photo would be a great accompaniment. Now I know Facebook is not everyone's cup of tea so I'll understand if you're not keen. I would of course give you full credit. David MGCC T Register Facebook admin |

Here are photos and information on Chris Couper's site by Kevin Wiseman about his German-made TD that was at GoF. (The unrestored TD). http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/Pictures/TD8873/mgtd_gallery_td8873.htm Kevin said that MG shipped chassis and a box of fasteners to Germany. Yes, the fasteners are BSF Whitworth! The Zeppelin factory formed the body panels by hand. The details and dimensions vary from English-built TDs. For example, a standard top (hood) will not fit because the back of the tub is larger. A total of 25 were build in three groups. A) One car B) Twelve cars C) Twelve cars I was honored to see the cars and talk to their owners. Lonnie TF7211 |

Just out of curiosity, how would you recognize a German made MG? Apart from it being better built of course :) |

Besides things noted in the link above, different door hinges, the back of the top edges of the door to rear quarter is shaped differently, running boards thinner (?), piano type bonnet hinge, aluminum windscreen frame, etc., etc. George |

Goeff, You can see many of the differences in the TD8873 Gallery mentioned in Lonnies post,, The bonnet latches, the id plate location, the panel work and welds, the temp gauge sending from the rad, the glove box, the door latches etc. etc, etc. Steve |
