MG TD TF 1500 - OEM
I've often wondered what the term actually stood for. I reckoned it obviously had something to do with the original part or manufacturer so I just Googled it & was surprised to find it has about 170 meanings. These include the obvious; Original Equipment Manufacturing & Other Equipment Manufacturer along with Overseas Export Market, Old Economy Model, On Equipment Material, even Outboard Exhaust Manifold. I'd thought perhaps Original English Made but that is not one of the acronyms listed. So.. Interesting bit of trivia. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

The first one is the correct one in our world (car parts). D |

In car parts, it means Original Equipment Manufacturer. |

Wonder who's the OEM for linoleum floor tiles, as (supposedly) used in production of some TCs... :) |

I don't think anyone has made linoeum here for many years - vinyl replaced it a long, long time ago, and even that has now all but faded away for flooring. So even if we knew, it wouldn't help. Steve, you are right. I just wasn't being picky. Dave H |

Hand made lino was very big a few years ago, bespoke floors for trendyites. |

Now that we think about it... that Lino that did make it into TC interiors... it would've been used material salvaged from workers' homes. Most likely prewar! :) |

Linolium was invented in 1855 in England by Frederick Walton out of linseed oil, sawdust and rubber using a special method. Its still a trendy material for flooring and a companion product call Lincrusta was invented by him later for use in embossed wall coverings. These were very important Victorian era offerings that saw widespread adoption the world over until vinyl floor coverings replaced Linolium in the 50's. |
