MG TD TF 1500 - Oil Cap Plating
I received a reproduction oil cap from a memeber that wanted it nickle plated. These come brass with a chrome pull knob. I filled in the lettering with paint first, using my finger as a squeegee. Only issue is on the reproduction, some of the letters near the outer edge are not very deep. Took a few trys, but it came out pretty good. Here is the cap while applying the paint. ![]() |

Here is the cap after plating.
One point I did find. The pull handle is chrome. Plating will not stick well to chrome, so I taped it prior to plating. Nickle plating is really easy and relatively safe. It uses vinigar as the base for the plating solution. Instructions for making the solution and doing the plating. https://www.instructables.com/id/High-Quality-and-safe-Nickel-Plating/ The nickle acetate is poisonous, so gloves are recommended. 4.5 v 300ma wall charger plated this is about 10 -15 minutes. ![]() |

Looks beautiful. Better than aluminum paint. :-) Regards Tim |

The chain on the repro is chrome and fastens on with a ring. I read that I can reverse the process and take nickel off the old cap, clean it and then replate. it PS. My spelling still needs work Its Nickel, Not nickle |
