MG TD TF 1500 - Oil to use after a long storage
I'm guessing a thinner oil will get circulating sooner than 2w50. I will pull the plugs and power to the pump and turn the engine over using the starter prior to starting it up. Couldn't find anything in the archives, probably because of my inexperience. Thanks in advance |

Run whatever oil you plan on using. Multi viscosity oils are a quantum improvement over straight weight oils available back in the day. Just spin the engine over until you get oil pressure...or use a pressurized oil pot to add oil/pressurize the oil system. Are you familiar with the engines storage condition? If internal corrosion is a possibility, you should drop the pan and pull at least one cap. Regards, Tom Peterson |

There are very inexpensive boroscope/video scopes available to view the cylinder walls through a spark plug hole, Pull the valve cover to view the rocker assembly for corrosion as well. Regards, Tom |

There is no need to run any special oil. Crank the engine to build pressure before starting, or better yet pressure prime the oil system. Then start normally. Most people run 20W-50 in these engines. |

And I would add, remove the spark plug and insert a tea spoon of oil in the cylinders to ensure good initial lubrication before cranking over on the starter. |
