MG TD TF 1500 - Oklahoma earthquakes
I read in the news that there were some earthquakes out in Oklahoma yesterday,, is every one ok ? Steve |

Seems to be caused by fracking, which is being addressed by a lot of organizations. It's also causing sink holes. Oklahoma is now on the top of the list for earthquakes. Depending how this is addressed, it could cause much unrest here in the oil industry. PJ |

BIG problem here too PJ nationwide, not with earthquakes, but with contamination of the subterranean artesian water. You see quite a few people here with FRACK OFF T shirts. I guess the earthquakes are only a matter of time. :-( Peter TD 5801 |

They don't need to frack to find oil on my garage floor! George |

Think how the poor Kiwis in Christchurch, NZ are feeling. No fracking involved just natural disasters. |

In California it has to be over 6.5 to even be called an earthquake. :-) |

I am never sure of where any of the multiplicity of American states are but I thought Oklahoma was somewhere in the middle. (How do you blokes keep track of which one you are in? You must all be very clever or have very smart GPS's.) It is many years since I learnt about these things so I may be quite in the wrong territory but I seem to remember that the central part of the US is classified as a high earthquake risk area. They apparently had a monster sometime in the early nineteenth century. So it is classed as a high seismeic risk area. All that fracking might just be loosening it up for the next big one. I am sure that someone would know more than me. so tighten up your bolts for a rough ride. |

For human survival the issue is not just intensity it is also where the epic centre is located. Thank goodness this last event was centred off the coast. |

"In California it has to be over 6.5 to even be called an earthquake. :-)" Amen!!! (my wife and I grew up in Southern California and are quite familiar with real earthquakes). |
DW DuBois |
In California we look at the ones that don't kill people as good, because it relieves some of the pressures deep down, and makes "the big ones" fewer and farther between. |

Bill McGee - Your memory is right. Google "New Madrid Earthquakes" for information on the 1811-1812 monster devastation centered around the town of New Madrid in southeastern Missouri. And yes it's right in the middle of the US. It was every bit as scary as any California quake. Joe |

I got towed in from a Vintage Car Club race at Timaru Raceway, with a broken gearbox, on Sunday 14th to be greeted by my wife with the news that Christchurch had had another large quake. She was trying to contact our daughters and we needed to get home to, among other things, check that the house we bought to replace the one written off five years ago was still there. So we dumped the TF in a shed, thanks to the local club, and headed off 100-odd miles to home. No significant damage, and family is OK. Trailered the TF home a couple of days later. Still getting the usual crop of after shocks - worst so far is 4.3, so not too bad. Every cloud has a silver lining. Hardly a murmur about the need for a new, maybe close-ratio, box. David |

Yeah but David, you live in NZ so you have to take a bit of grief along with living in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Glad to hear all is OK. |

There have been earthquakes in Oklahoma since there was Oklahoma. Lived in Texas and Oklahoma most of my early life. Brother in laws house [built in the 60's] already had cracks in slab [most of the country homes are on slabs] by the 80's. I suppose may be worse now but as stated previously this is a high risk area anyway. |
