MG TD TF 1500 - Old TF Trim & Upholstery

I have replaced several parts during the TF restoration, like the running board strips, side bonnet strips, radiator grill slats, all interior upholstery panels, wood crash bar, rear 3-piece wood trim set, seat covers. All original upholstery was on the car. All of the other pieces of chrome on the car were replaced (bumpers, all lamps, interior bits, all door hardware) or rechromed (windscreen frame, center bonnet pivot, bonnet push buttons, radiator grill surround). There were no surviving chromed pieces. All of these pieces were "perished" to some degree.

Do any of these old TF parts have any type of value? Should I hang on to them? Recycle the metal parts? Does anyone have an interest in a particular part?

thanks,
Tyler

Tyler,
What color is the upholstery? Condition? I'm looking for a set of original red leather seat upholstery.

Thanks, Dan

Where abouts are you Daniel? I have a TF in the North Seattle area and am always interested to meet those around me with the same machine.

Hi Alex,

I live a few miles north of Snohomish. Machias actually.

Tyler, I may have interest in some or maybe all of your leftovers. I have chosen to resurrect this car rather than restore it. When I am done (less mechanical's) it will look like it did when it was shoved into the barn in 1973. This will be drive any ware anytime kind of car.

I think original, used & defunct parts have real value but perhaps not in the monetary sense. Maybe your local M.G. Club may have an interest & a place (or the desire to acquire one) to store/display such items. (I wish mine did!). Original items are a huge help when it comes to restoring a T Type even if the parts no longer function. This is especially true of upholstery items. It's also good to see how much of a departure AM parts are. Also helps in sourcing identical parts from other marques. If you can keep them I'd request/suggest/beg that you do so. In another 50 years our cars will still be undergoing restoration, AM parts will look even less like the originals & someone will no doubt sing your praises & be really glad you had the foresight to hang onto them. Cheers

When I finished mine Tyler I listed what I had along with pictures. Nearly everything went to a new home for the cost of shipping. I'm sure I could have made a few bucks but in my mind it was just a pay it forward type of deal for all the help that was given to me here. I just don't have the capitalist gene in me I guess.

Tyler, I am seeking some original green upholstery. Thanks. Larry

Original bumper bars should be saved, as the repros are all shaped wrong. Same with door lock hardware- I built original locks out of pieces of several used ones. Same with sidelights, etc. You could list on ebay of no local takers or offer on the board? George

dear folks,
I wasn't thinking of selling anything at this point, but giving it to anyone who wanted it for the price of shipping.

Daniel, the upholstery is red. I'll find the seat covers and photograph them. Let me know what other parts you might want.

Peter, I wish I could hang on to the parts, but am cramped for room with 2 MGs (and wife's giant scooter) taking up the garage.

Larry, sorry, no green.

George, I know, those new side lamps were beautiful, but horrible. I finally had to tap new threads for the little chromed screw.

Please let me know if anyone has an interest. Send an email. I have all the carpeting and padding, all the rexine, all chrome, all interior panels, all wood (except tub)too.

thanks,
Tyler

You've got mail.

Larry,

I have an original green TF interior which is fairly complete. I am going to hang onto it for reference until I finish my restoration. After I'm done with it and if you have not located another by then, I'll be happy to send it to you. I'm making some progress and expect to have it done late in 2016.

Charlie,
Do you have photos of the original dash painted green?
I am trying to find the proper color to paint my dash. Photos would be appreciated. Thanks.
