MG TD TF 1500 - Original horns
Unfortunately I sent my horns to a powder coater who had no experience with them, and although they came back looking good, they sound like a tiny car horn now, squeaky and very quiet. Moss has some aftermarket horns, are they going to sound as good as the original? anyone know where I could source original horns? Thanks |

I was reluctant to have an electric device powder coated due to the heat so just had the removable chrome covers plated instead. Yes, not original but looks good IMO.

Might have some in my attic, may be a couple days until I can look. George |

Have you tried adjusting them? Be well, David |

Hope that you or your powder coater disassembled the horns before they went into the oven.
Maybe the following can help get your horns honking again. > WSM Section N.14 > Lucas Overseas Technical Correspondence Course, Section 8 http://www.fromtheframeup.com/uploads/Lucas08_Wipers_Horns_Lighting.pdf > University Motors "WindTone Horns" (Adjustment) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEpS3D9WQb8 > Horn adjustment, 1950 Delco-Remy Electrical Service (two pages) http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/electrical/50dr5022/50dres19.html > How to Restore a Classic Car Horn, Second Chance Garage http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/198.cfm > Hints from Austin's Morris Garage, Windtone Horns http://www.vintagemg.com/ArticlePDFs/THorns1-2.pdf > MGTD15470 » Electrical » Lucas Windtone Horns - Dave Braun (May need to copy-paste link) http://www.dbraun99.com/MGTD15470/Electrical/Lucas%20Windtone%20Horns/index.html I have attached a PDF pattern for the gasket. Save and print at "Actual Size", "100%", then measure the scale on the pattern to confirm that it is at 100%. The original WT614 gasket was a paper/cardboard material ~0.028" thick. +++ First choice: 1/32" Paper Gasket Material e.g. Fel-Pro #30046 Karropak +++ Second choice: 1/32" Rubber-Fiber Fel-Pro #3157 for sealing oil, water, or gasoline Lonnie TF7211 |

Do you think the powder coating filled the coils up? Or is is electrical? You have to have a really good ground all the way through the the bracket, body, and then to the metal internal disk thing. George |

Upon further thought (and finding a wiring diagram to look at), my above re: ground may be wrong, it may not be needed. Easy to check anyway: just run a jumper from know good ground to a bare metal part and try it. |

I have some TD/F horns for sale. They have the teardrop shaped trumpet as original. Send me an email message if you are still looking. Hugh Pite jenntoo@shaw.ca |

Hello all. You can not powdercoat a horn, musical or other without destroying the frequency of the horn toralf NORWAY. Td 4490 |
