MG TD TF 1500 - Original NOS Lucas 5 Post Regulator
Thought some of you might like to see a new old stock 5 post regulator just taken out of the original box, which is still wrapped in the original wax paper. The brown paper covering it is still there also. Yes it came out of the box with the tag on it. Don't know why the tag is under the wire clip, I guess whoever packaged it put it that way for protection?? Here are a couple pics. including the box. PJ |

PJ, Chris Couper has a diagram and instructions for duplicating that warning label on his site near the bottom of the page. Thanks for posting, always glad to see originality. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_etchings.htm Regards Tim |

Nice one PJ. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Crazy as it might sound, the original stapled together box intrigued me a bit and the wax paper wrapping. PJ |

I purchased a quantity of original NOS LUCAS PLC 2 ignition switches also wrapped in very heavy brown waxed paper in stapled cardboard boxes. Must have been state of the art packaging in the early fifties. Did the job as the contents were pristine. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

NOS 9-post for your collection...

Steve can you please measure the length of what I assume are the original LUCAS fuses in your 9 post NOS reg. Also can you confirm the shape of the ends? From the pic they seem to be overlong for the fuse holders at probably 1 1/4" and they don't appear to have the bullet shaped ends. Perhaps the date stamp on the unit itself may shed some light. PJ,
I also have bought Lucas parts packed in thick brown boxes. I assumed that these were for military use, I thought was the case because these parts came from Cyprus, an ex British colony. Also I noticed that your regulator has a wire wound resistor instead of the older carbon type. Please could you give me the date stamp of your unit so that I could determine when the change was made. I know that it was sometime before 11 60. I know that this is a piece of useless information, it is only for my curiosity. John |

Peter and John, I'll have to go get it from the shop and open it back up, right now it's just breaking daylight and we have a massive storm approaching, I'll get it out and give you guys the info as soon as the storm passes. It's raining like crazy right now. PJ |

Ok, I opened the box, read the numbers on the regulator and have become thoroughly confused! The numbers are: LU-3 2 12V and below them is stamped "Made in Germany". Did Lucas have a plant in Germany? Were there German cars that used the same regulator? The part number on the box looks like an old Moss part number, but not sure. The box says "Made in England". Was this possibly a military item? Questions, questions! I guess it's not what I thought it was. ??? PJ
Oh yeah, the wires on the bottom go inside to each coil and had to be put in during the manufacturing process. |

Where does it say Germany? It's possible you have a Lucas cap on an aftermarket body. I have seen German control boxes before but the caps didn't say Lucas on them. Peter, I'll have a look as soon as I get the chance. The photo is actually a bit old and the control box is now on a car, so it's possible the fuses have been changed by now but I seem to recall they were bullet ends. |

From the early 50 TD 9 post regulator Peter.

How long is it LaVerne? Looks original especially with those ends. I have some coming from England that look similar and they are 1" long, not the 1 1/4" and sold as 'early classic car LUCAS fuses'. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Wouldn't a NOS regulator have brass screws? Tim |
Timothy Burchfield |
I don't think so. I think they were always tinned. |
