MG TD TF 1500 - Original Oil flex line
Read the threads in the archives that the original flex oil line was rubber with a wire coil over it. Does anyone know if a replacement like the original is available? I saw a picture of the original and think I know of a replacement but need the length and diameter of the original. The triumphs use a wire wrapped brake line. It has a male end on both ends, so if the diameter is close, I can have it recoupled with the female fittings used on the TD. ![]() |

About 8 years ago I bought one from NTG in the UK which had the the wire coil. Their picture shows that this is still the case. However I suggest the you check with them before ordering. https://www.mgbits.com/contents/en-uk/p2606_Flexible-Pipe-Oil-Gauge.html John |

This is also where I bought mine per recommendation from this board. I'm sure the picture is accurate and this is what you will get when you order. Frank TF 1414 |

Thanks John. I looked at their site, you are better than I am navigating their site. I could not find it. FTFU lists these as NA currently. Have not called them to confirm that. Will do that on Monday. Their price is up there. A spitfire brake line runs under $20 and having two new fittings put on only runs about $10. |

Take an image, dimensions and fitting specs to any hydraulics hose supplier and they will fabricate one for you. |

Bruce, The link in my comment above should take you directly to the pipe, If not, just type the part number (B263) in the search window from their home page. John |

In the UK there is a firm called Pirtek and they will make up virtually any hydraulic hose whilst you wait. They appear to have depots in most cities. Jan T |

I have a functional original in my "must hang on to that" box. I'll take it along to an Enzed depot and see what they can do. If you want details I'm happy to measure and take a few pics of it for you Bruce. They should be able to identify the threads as well. Thanks all. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Lonnie nailed it. Doug Pelton of FTFU has these (or he used to). Here is a picture of one on my TD. ![]() |

I found a rubber hose with a correct fitting in my spares. No spring on it. But I should be able to identify the threads. Most likely British pipe. I have a gauge set, so hopefully I can identify the thread. |

Chris. Can you take a picture of the end of the hose? I want to see if I can match the faring on the new hose I got. Of note. The new hose is a Beck Arnley and is made in Italy. Also, is the wire under the faring? Oh and BTW. My bad on FTFU. I saw NA to the right and thought it meant they did not have it in stock. I emailed Doug. They do have it. B |

I doubt the wire would be under the collar. Seems that would be an abrasion risk. |

Enzed here are unable to reproduce an accurate oil line. I sent them the NTG pic and apparently the wire around the rubber hose is the issue. I'll try a couple of other manufacturers. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter. I purchased front brake hose for a Triumph Spitfire. I took the ends off my braded steel line and am having the ends put on the Spitfire brake line.
The spitfire brake line is wire wrapped. It may or may not be as tight as the original, but is very close. Moss has a similar hose for $13.99. I have to take it to a brake shop as the hydraulic hose builders in my are do not have a small enough die to put the facet on the end and squeeze it down. I will post a picture when I get it done. ![]() |
