MG TD TF 1500 - Original or something the PO did?

Getting the tub cleaned up and ran into a few holes that I need to know if they are factory or something the PO did that I can weld up.

First is right in the center of the back plat the transmission cover bolts on to. The pattern looks like a hasp.

This hole is in the passenger fender section of the tub. Drivers side does not have a hole here.

Last are these weld marks on the metal channel the floor bolts on to.

Can't think of anything that needs to be welded on.

Looks like someone at one time installed seat belts?

The three above the the center hole in pic 1. Not there
The one in the wheel arch. Pic 2 Not there.
The electrode arc strikes I wouldn’t worry about

Ok, time for a little welding and some finish grinding prior to paint.

I agree with Frank in that the big holes look like a seat built hack job. But that leaves a mystery about what those little holes could be for.

BTW those three holes the tunnel attaches to are supposed to have captive nuts in them.

Thanks Bill and Chris. The top center and the two lower holes that are just at the bottom of the screen have the captive nuts on the,

I was wondering if the PO had a center console with a flip up lid. The five holes look suspiciously like a hinge bracket. Kind of like you would have on a shed door.

Yes, the car had seatbelts in it. And only one hole even goes through the angle metal support. I left these in on the last rebuild as I did not know they were that badly installed. They just had a really big washer behind the sheet metal.

So the seat belts I have been using all these years were pretty much worthless.

My car has the same type of holes. I did not bother to fill them. I still have those big washers and the eye bolts and all the seatbelt hardware too.

Well it depends on what you expect the seatbelts to do. If you want them to keep you in the car during a rollover I suspect these would work just fine.

If you expect that they would keep you from being ejected in a horrific front end collision then I think there are other issues that make what seat belt attachment you are using moot. Just MHO.

Got all the extra holes welded up today. The thickness of the steel is just thick enough so it fills ok. I have a little hammer an dolly work to do on a few spots, but should have the back all in paint this week.
