MG TD TF 1500 - Original side light bulb holder early TD

I have a bag of sidelight bulb holders. Two are like the right one in the picture, the rest are like the left. I have two bulb holders for the left one that appear to touch the back power post.

I see that the bulb can twist into the lower holder, but how is it powered? Should there be a post that touches the bulb like the left one

I am assuming the right one is an older version, but would it be correct for a 1950 TD?

I also note that the insulating material appears to be rexan. A vinyl-coated cloth.

I am also curious about the use of Rexine around these units. My car was converted to turn signals in the early 60's and therefore the front bulb holders were replaced then so I have no recollection of any insulator material.

Bruce. Remind me tomorrow and I’ll look for the originals that were on TD-4834 before I converted to turn signals. I think I may still have them as I don’t get in the habit of tossing original parts.

Just found the socket that I removed from Lazarus, TD10855. It has a piece of rexine-like material insulating the center-connector from the frame. It's in pretty good condition. Something you might want, Bruce? I'm not going to reinstall it. Bud

I have a Nov.'51 built TD that to the best of my knowledge has never had turn signals. Should I be removing the wing/fender lamp to see what's in there?

Grif. Turn signals were not made available on export cars to the US until TD 22315 (Nov 1952). A lot of TD owners add turn signals to their cars. Normally when they do a rewire of the car.
