MG TD TF 1500 - OT - Lazarus and Movies (Again)
| Remember the tear-jerker movie 'Love Story' with Ryan O'Neal and Ali McGraw where they drove around Boston in a TC?. Well, the two of them are now doing the stage show 'Love Letters'. It's opening in Boston next week. They are coming to Cambridge next Monday. Some publicist had the idea that they should show up in Harvard Square in a TC or TD. Guess whose TD they're going to be in - yep Lazarus? If O'Neal could drive a TC back in those days he should be able to handle a TD now days (even though he's put on a few pounds). Fortunately, they're predicting temperatures in the 50's. I'll let you know what happens. BTW, Lazarus has a history with movies - http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/In_the_movies.htm Bud |

| Sandy (FL), the role of Schokley was played by Gary Henoch. Sandy (North)- it was shot 1n 1999. Steve, one of the publicists knew of the Boston MG Club so he contacted them. Guess they figured that all of their TC/TD cars would be hibernating, so they contacted Charlie Frink of the Cape Cod British Car Club. Charlie contacted CCBCC member Art Cox. Between the two of them it was unanimous, 'contact Bud Krueger'. In these parts I'm known for thinking that TD stands for TO DRIVE. Bud |

| Congratulations on other starring role! I grew up across the river from Harvard and in fact used to street race on Western Ave, right in front of WGBH. When the movie came out my girl wanted to see it. We sat in front of an older couple; they were probably 40. The guy made some comments about the TC and when the infamous line "Love means never having to say you're sorry" was said, my girlfriend teared up and the guy behind me muttered: "Bull$hit". |

Had a great time. Ryan O'Neal has a good sense of humor and hadn't forgotten how to drive TC/TD. (Just a moderate sound of gear crunching.) I'm hoping to get some decent images from the publicity folks. Here's one that I took that shows Ali McGraw (O'neal's next to her). Bud

| The London Daily Mail and USA Today have picked up the AP story. USA today said"..driving a super-cool car..". Daily Mail just called Lazarus "an antique convertible similar to the one used in "Love Story"" (a TC). Bud |

| Small aside: My grandfather worked with Shockley on the transistor. I've got his working model produced for a few of the team members as a commemorative award in the 80's. He grew the crystals used in the labs (Bell Labs, Murray Hill). He pulled Germanium crystals before WWII and corresponded with many European scientists at that time. After the war he re-connected with some of them and brought them over here after he was hired by Bell Labs. He also grew the materials used for the solar cells on Telstar. Small world: my father in law assembled Telstar's chassis, has is signature on each one. He knew my grandfather decades before I met my wife. In my area of NJ, everybody worked for Bell Labs.

| Looks as if the TC that was used in the original movie has been discovered. According to Rick Smith it now belongs to Len Johnson. Wouldn't it be great if it can be used in 50th anniversary festivities in 5 years? Bud |
