MG TD TF 1500 - OT - Lazarus is Moving South
Spent the past week driving a Prius to/from Marietta GA. After 50+ years in Plymouth MA we've decided to get away from the snow, etc., and head south. We've a daughter who has been in Marietta for about 8 years and it seems like a fine place to live. A lot of work to do, but we expect to be making the move about the 1st of June. Had thought of flat-towing Lazarus, but I'm giving in to driving him down and flying back. So, forgive me if I'm quiet on the BBS for the next bit. I'd appreciate hearing from any of you Tcar folks down that way. Figure I'll be joining the S.E. Chapter. I may want to beg my way into a place for Lazarus and I to spend a night on the way down. You are always welcome in Yonkers N Y Len 914 420 8699 Laf48@aol.com Best of luck! |

Well, Phila is probably a little close for a stop-off, but if it works, you're welcome here. Or, God forbid, if you need repairs. |
Kevin McLemore |
Come on down! After 35 Chicago winters I retired and moved down here. Drove the TD every month of the year and this past winter I did not see the first snow flake. The S.E coast of NC is out of your way but we have a couple car shows you might enjoy this month and next. |

Bud, you're probably taking I95 all the way but if you decide on the scenic (western) route, highly recommended, I have an empty bay and can find a bed. Jud (SC hey 11 at SC hwy 14) |
J. K. Chapin |
Actually, after looking at a map, you might be taking I95 to Richmond/Petersburg and then I85 to Atlanta. Stop by if you can. Jud |

Hi Bud., Good on you for taking the move to start another 'Krueger' chapter in life. Your comments over the years on bbs/td tf have been appreciated by many. Keep in touch with the Board. Cheers for now. Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Len, my home town is White Plains, NY. Lived in North Salem for a good number of years before moving to Florida to avoid the winters. At 70, I had enough cheers Gary 79 MGB |

You will be close to some of the best sports car roads in the eastern US. The north Georgia mountains are amazing as well. Road Atlanta not too far away either! George |

Bud, Were planning on moving back to South Carolina. The farm is up for sale here in Oklahoma. Since our youngest passed, we decided to go back to the family, home. Good luck on your move, hopefully all will go well for you and yours. The heat bill will be a little less down there. Grin. PJ |

Thanks for the kind words, folks. Don't recon I'll do that, Steve. But, I'll miss BBTS visits. Jud, I did the inland route last week (I81, I77, etc.). I'll probably use I95 for the Lazarus trip. Been wanting to meet up with you. GB3, I'm looking forward to having that 'just jump in and cruise' atmosphere. One of the biggest pains thus far is in packing up >32 linear feet of bookshelves related to Tcars. And thre's another 12' of computer-related stuff. Haven't even begun the basement, in which I built the tub of 'the53'. Nor the garage that Lazarus has been in for 28 years. Need to get the cherry picker back to Swamp Yankee in Rhode Island. Do I really need 3 floor jacks? What about the engine stand? Air compressor? Let's see - there are 4 4-shelf units holding heaven-knows-what. Maybe I'll put a trailer hitch on Lazarus instead of the towbar. More later - have to go to the neighborhood liquor store and get some more boxes. Bud |

Best of luck Bud....snowed here yesterday and the wife is nearing retirement...warmer weather sounds good to me. Funny Steve...but Y'all is Texas dialect...south eastern dialect is the proper You all :-) |

Bud: we made the move 2-1/2 years ago to Tampa Bay Area of Florida from the Adirondacks, NY. Happiest day was watching "Welcome to Westport,NY" disappear in the rearview mirror. No regrets Cheers Gary 79 MGB PS. Jettison as much "stuff" as you can |

Leaving at 0400 tomorrow morning. Won't be alone. The family, bless them, has decided that one of my daughters should follow behind me. Not sure if it's because of the age the car (64) or driver (81). I certainly appreciate all of the offers from you folks. We'll be taking the inland route with a planned stop in Lexington VA tomorrow night. Unfortunately, the weather report is predicting rain for a lot of the trip. Must say that I'm not a great fan of driving with the hood up, much less with side curtains on. Cheers, Bud |

Best of luck Bud, go easy and take care. Regards George |

Left Plymouth MA at 0500. Arrived here in Lexington VA at 1900 (7pm). About 700 miles some in heavy rain, some in CT rush hour traffic. Used Tappan Zee bridge and took the inland route. RainX did a great job, only used the wipers for about half an hour. Lazarus ran like his namesake 'TD=To Drive'. Matched the speed limit as much as I could, even the 70mph parts (love those 4.3 gears). DLD, I'm looking forward to joining in. Thanks for your concern folks. God willing, we'll be in Marietta tomorrow afternoon. Bud |
Bud Krueger |
Glad that you made it safe Bud !!! Must have been quite an experience with the speed, traffic and weather !! Hopefully the rest of the trip will be easier.. You say "Marietta tomorrow afternoon" do you mean Friday afternoon?? I'm gettin' messed up by the posting date/times Steve |

Yes, Steve. The tomorrow that I spoke of is now today, Friday. Will be leaving at about 0700 (can't pass up free breakfast at a Holiday Inn Express). Should get to Marietta around 3pm plus fuel stops, etc. Bud |

Hey Bud,, We are in the Tampa Bay Area of FL. If you are over this way, we'll leave a light on for you. May even cajole "The Queen" to make a trifle for you Cheers Gary 79 MGB |

Bud, Suggest you treat Lazurus to the I81/I77/I26 bypass and avoid the I95 section from NY to SC. I've been doing that rune several times a year since 1996 and can't handle the extremely heavy truck traffic in that I95 section; unless of course, you're planning to enjoy the Atlantic seaboard scenery. However, you might like a day on the Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway which you can pick up from I81. Gorgeous views but slow-moving traffic. But allow a full day if you do. Two-lane road with many stretches a 45 mph limit. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Glad you make a safe and quick drive, Bud. I think the driver as well as Lazarus were both very ready for bed. |

Back in April my comments were posted under nzllwfajc nzllwfajc don't know how but appreciated them being anonymous while you were still around here. Bud you made my boyhood fantasy come true by mentoring me through the resuscitation of Rosie. You were always there to support guide and even do, but most importantly you were always patient and kind. I came from another technical field with no insight in automotives and you taught me. I hope to be ale to continue in the TD arena without such backup, but I can truly appreciate you choice. For those who only know Bud through the website, look up the word "mench" in a dictionary there is a picture of Bud |

Sorry to be so tardy, it's been a heckuva couple weeks. At this point we are firmly ensconced in Marietta GA. Arrived yesterday after about 10,000 miles of running between Plymouth MA and Marietta GA, only 1200 of which was in Lazarus. Main problem right now is that the moving fan is having mechanical problems in South Carolina and isn't planning to get here until tomorrow, the holiday. I ended up discarding 350 pounds of garage stuff when loading the wagon to come down here. I don't have room for all of it here. It'll take a long time to sort everything out and find a place for it. I had duplicate sets of tools at Lazarus' garage and the basement workshop. The drive down with Lazarus was mechanically perfect. Never had to play games with big trucks while climbing/descending the mountains of NC and VA. That's even with limiting Lazarus to 4500 rpm. Must admit seeing 78mph on the GPS. The only glitch was from an electrical component installed to avoid such glitches. The brake light relay became intermittent. Not a problem since the family insisted that my daughter drive behind me all of the way down. The weather was warm. As usual Lazarus' oil pressure never dropped below 75psi while the coolant temperature was approaching 90C in the mountains. Butch Taras builds a great water pump. Interesting thing was to watch the A/F meter drop from 13.4:1 to 11.4:1 over the trip. Haven't checked that yet. As soon as I catch my breath I'll contact the S.E folks to join up with them. Must admit that I'm going to miss my Mass. license plate 'MGTD'. Bud BTW, my email has been SNAFU for the past week. |

Congrats to a safe arrival and the new home. I'm sure sorting all the stuff will take a while. But it is a bit like Christmas-lot's of boxes to open;-) Rgds Mike |
