Larry, don't forget the Army and USAF (I'll never forget the Army, Vietnam 69, 70) :-) Since Marines mostly served in the Pacific during WWII your statement might be more accurate if you had said Without them we would all be driving Hondas and Toyotas. But we know how that turned out lol

In 1961, I was the crew that put the USS Iwo Jima LPH 2 in commission in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard - the first ship to be built from keel up to transport Marines and be able to deploy them via helicopter into the battle field. I spent the next 3 years on the Iwo Jima transporting Marines and helicopters. The Marines were great people to be with (the helicopters just noisy). That was an enjoyable time for me. Cheers - Dave
