MG TD TF 1500 - Paint Booth is up

I set up our new inflatable paint booth today. This is a Chinese 25 x 15 x 10 booth that runs on two fans. One blows up the support tubes and one blows air in to the booth.

The booth has two large charcoal filters on the sides.

It is easily large enough for a regular car or a truck.

We are going to start painting on the TD shortly.

Here is the inside and one of the filters

The air comes in to the antichamber and through the filter in the back. It is then filtered again when it exits the booth.

Looks like a bounce house. I'll be right over. :-)

Ba zinga !

I'm lucky. Put mine up in a barn and modified so that it is supported from the top to overhead rafters. Means when things are just "waiting" haven't got to have the fan to erect going. Extra dry storage space too.

I did something very similar with a polytunnel. Being made of PE I had to line the lower half with paper to avoid overspray from flaking off. That inflatable appears to be made from plasticised PVC, which I don't think with give the same issue. Anyway, best of luck with it.

Interesting. I see on Ebay in UK for £500. Not bad.

Love to hear your real life experience :-)

That looks really good and I would say well worth the cost. You can always sell it on fleabay when your done as well.
A far cry from what I had back in 1972.
Just out of the Air Force and no money to speak of and a very understanding Mother. Who let me use the single garage and green house to get the paint on.

Doing it yourself is very satisfying and even better if you have the right kit.

Good luck Bruce It should turn really good.

Nice Bruce and the cool thing about it is you can store it away in a fairly small package until you need it again, which you will when the next car comes along! LOL. PJ

We tested out the booth and the new 3M Accuspray paint gun. The 3m uses a disposable tip system (about 3 to 4$ apiece). They are super easy to clean and does not use much solvent to clean. The pot has a plastic liner that you can clean or throw away C$2 per cup and another $3 for the filter lid the paper cone strainers. The front end can be cleaned about 5 times before you need to change them.

The tips come in 4 different sizes, so you can do really thin things like stains, automotive paints, automotive primers, and automotive filler/primer.

As for the booth. My brother has been painting for 40 years. He was very impressed. No dust at all in the paint.

The filters on the booth work, but as you would expect, you do get a fine dust of paint that falls out. Most collect on the tubes under the filters, but there is a dusting on the floor. You also get a little stain of paint where the air pushes out through the zipper.

Obviously, not as high flow as commercial paint booths, but the paint looks great.

That should say that the lid has a filter that replaces the need for paper cone paint filters. With the filter in the lid, you can pour your paint right into the pot. The outer pot has measurements on it.

Ass you reducer and activator and get to painting.

Bruce, Did your booth come with the internal supports which appear to be plastic/aluminum tubing
JK Mazgaj

No, Bill Chaser was kind to give me the support tubing from a portable garage.

The supports fit nicely inside the booth. I added cross beams to hang parts on.
