MG TD TF 1500 - Part Location

Despite taking several hundred pictures when I disassembled the car, I did not record the location of this one. I believe it has something to do with the clutch cable. Thanks,

Bill

Bill - That item is the clutch cable guide. Most TDs have long since had the clutch cable to rod operation. I would just leave it off (since our TD came from the factory with the rod operated clutch, that piece was never installed on our car. If you want to put the piece back where it came from. it goes on the side (left side if you car is left hand drive) of the sump, toward the back (there is a boss with two holes tapped for 1/4 or 5/16 BSF). I tried to get a URL to the Moss site for this picture.
Wont work.
Here is where it goes, if you have a cable rather than a rod.

Near the 2A balloon.

Well, if I understand correctly, I have both. It's an early car TD 4618

Bill - The cable operated clutch was used on the TD up to just before the 53 model came out. If you have the cable set up and it is in good condition, I would certainly stick with it. A lot of the early cars had the cable set up wore out and it was no longer available. I don't know if the cable set up is still available, if it is, I would probably stick with it. If you have to change over to the rod operated clutch, contact me at SUfuelpumps@donobi.net - I have information that was never published about the clutch pedal stop bolt that was never published when changing over to the rod operated system. If your car was changed over to the rod system, or you have to do so now, I would suggest that you contact Declan Burns in Germany and purchase his rods - which are vastly better than anything available over here. My early 52 has a cable. My original was shredded. I got a replacement from "old" Abington. It was not quite correct. I needed to file the opening in the jackshaft box a bit.
I did make an adjustable rod to the throw out bearing.

In the picture the old cable is at the top.
New at the bottom.
the swaged clevis on the new one is just wider enough not to fit through the hole in the pedal box.
A bit of filing took care of that.

I did apprise Abingdon of the issue at the time. That was February of 2012

Wonder if they correct this as I need to buy a couple for my MK IIs
