MG TD TF 1500 - Passing of Don Harmer

Our local Club, the Southeastern MGT Register, has lost one of its most dedicated members: Don Harmer, known to many of you on this BBS as well as the MG Experience site, passed away on Monday, August 31st. Don had been a very active member of the Club since the early 1980s and had served as Club Registrar and Editor of our newsletter for many, many years. Don was also an avid contributor to the various discussions on this BBS. The following message was sent out to the Club members:

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a legend. Our axis may be just a bit tilted as we adjust to a world without our faithful registrar and editor, Don Harmer. There are no words to describe the void that his passing will leave. We can only remember the incredible passion that he maintained. The love that he had for this club, and the endless energy he devoted are a testament to the man he was. Our hearts are with his family as they deal with this tremendous loss. Let’s raise a glass of Merlot in thoughtful reverence.

Don, you will be missed.

Some members who live in the Southeast and Georgia may be interested in the following visitation information:

For those who wish to pay their respects, visitation has been scheduled for September 19 from 4:00-8:00. The service will be held September 20 at 3:00 pm. with a reception to follow.

The family has asked everyone to drive their MGs to the service on Sunday. They have arranged for special parking.

So sorry to hear this..never met Don in the flesh, but he was one of my first contacts when I was sorting my TF out. There are parts on "Izzy" that will always be a reminder of his generosity. My thoughts are with the Harmer Family at this difficult time.

I have known Don for over 30 years. He was always a perfect gentleman and a gift to the MG world.
He will be missed.

The TF came to me missing the dash trim. I remember a gentleman I never met every time I get in this car. Don had been helping me secure a complete tool kit early into my ownership, (as well as some other bits). I posted an inquiry on this BBS asking if anyone had a source for more reasonably priced dash trim. (At the time $450 from A/S.) A few days later a package arrived from Don with a little note inside and the trim piece. He could have easily sold this to me, but instead sent it as a gift. Thanks Don ...RIP.

I met him and his TF this year at GOF-South. And we exchanged emails afterward. He was an asset to the MG collector hobby and a nice guy. I'm honored that I got to meet him.

Don was a neat guy and encyclopedic about T-series things. He was at every GOF South that I can remember going back many years. I remember a while ago there was an electrical issue being discussed on the board and someone disagreed with him. I think I posted that since Don was a physics researcher and professor he was most likely correct. Thoughts and prayers to the family. George

Don will be missed. He was indeed a gentleman. He befriended me in the 80's when I first got my TF. My prayers go out to his family. Larry

What a shame. Don had a great series of attributes. A highly intelligent person with a great ability to share his knowledge with the rest of us. He'll be sorely missed. Bud

I'm another who knew Don through GOF South...and various other venues. Always a gentleman, always friendly and always willing to share his knowledge without being bossy...my wife and I will miss him.

I too first met Don at GOF South in Sebring, and later at MG International in 2006 in Gatlinburg TN. Exceptionally knowledgeable.

I believe he retired as a Professor of Physics at Georgia Institute of Technology.

If I'm not mistaken, he has several children including one an MG owner and living in England.

Indeed a great loss to the MG community. Condolences to the family.
