MG TD TF 1500 - Patent Plate Original
Hi All, On TFs,the original Patent Plate was manufactured out of brass with a flash of thin cadmium? type plating and black coloured background. i.e. both the perimeter and the lettering/numbering was plated, whilst the background of the printed numbers was black. The repros have incorrect lower case form and are made out of aluminium. I have the original brass TF Patent Plates, however the plating and black paint colour has been majorly eroded off. Any ideas on how to put back the original look? Cheers. Rob Gratham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Hi Rob. Nickle plated originally with the recess filled with black paint. The Original MG TF site under Details then Emblems etc has all the info on restoring your originals. Have a great 2016. Cheers mate. Peter TD 5801 |

Replacement from 10 years ago. I don't recall where I got it...could have been Moss but I don't think so.

The other day someone showed me an even better way to remove the access paint. Once you load it up and it is still wet, drag a fresh business card (or other thin but still cardboard card) to pull the excess paint away. You may have to repeat this a few times to fill it adequately. Then let it dry overnight and use a flat surface and a rag with thinner to remove the thin layer or film of paint leftover. Then polish with car wax or a light abrasive car cleaner wax. |

That's supposed to be excess paint. Sheesh. |
