MG TD TF 1500 - Pedal shaft

Helping a friend set up his pedal box, and the shaft to my horror, is priced in the $115 range! Really? Are they now being made of Platinum?

Seems to me I saw one from a supplier, on which the cross-hatching had been done, but can't recall who.

Any ideas?

Gord,

Is your car LH drive or RH drive.

RH is really simple and any rod of good steel would do. If you have access to a lath it's a doddle
Just make your own.
Cir clips and zerk fitting are not expensive.

I have nothing to add about the shaft but I'm wondering if you got the MGB home?

Must agree it is very simple to make up a new shaft. It is a good idea to reduce the diameter in the centre section. It will be MUCH easier to remove in the future.

Haven't got the MGB home yet, In fact, I haven't got it running yet. Looking for some help in the Edgewater area when I do - perhaps in 3 or 4 weeks Have the bits need to do the steering column lock. Hopefully that's all.

Thanks all re the pedal shaft. Getting very forgetful these days.

Gord,

Try Len Fanelli, he lives not too far away from Edgewater and might be able to assist you.

Gord (and Jim) Len Fanelli is from Yonkers, NY across the George Washington Bridge to Edgewater,New Jersey. Not that far actually. I do not know Len at all, but I would imagine he could at least advise what to do and give you some direction.

I am a member of NAMGBR and have a directory of service facilities in New Jersey. Here goes:

R.O.C.S. Auto, Inc.
190 washington Ave
Belleville, NJ

Foreign Aid
207 Bellevue Ave.
Upper Montclair, NJ

These two are about 15-20 miles west of Edgewater.

I don't know if this is any help to you.

keep us posted.

Hello.

While I am not of the caliber of Lew, I live only one mile from the aforementioned;

Foreign Aid
207 Bellevue Ave.
Upper Montclair, NJ

I am in in Verona, NJ. Next town west of Montclair.
I have not replied since its still 15 to 20 Miles from Edgewater.
I do have a fairly good set of BS tools and could help if I am around. (That's most of the time, I am retired.) I have a large parking area if, for some reason you need a Storage area.

Jim and Gary,

I may well take you up on your offer, but I'll give you plenty of notice.

Like you, I too am retired - have been for over 20 yrs. Problem is my back. I can only last 15 minutes before I have to sit down, so I work slowly. If nothing more, I need some moral encouragement.

I've met Len at several GOFs but he is light years ahead of my skills. Anybody that can design and manufacture a roller cam, has my greatest respect. When I take the train to NJ, I always dismount in Yonkers, but when I come in a few weeks, I'll be driving because I need to bring my tools. I already have an MGB (see pic) but I rarely drive it and I plan to sell it and keep the NJ one. I believe the MGB uses "Unified SAE" tools. I should be OK.

My major concerns are what's lurking in the gas tank/fuel lines/Weber, etc. Car hasn't been driven in 5 yrs. Black magic always confuses me!

Jim if you could let me have your 'phone nbr off-line by email, that would be a good starting point.

I had a new one spare when I got my car.
I upgraded it with a 3rd hole and cross hatched a grove around all 3 holes for grease.
I have the old one, which is not in bad shape. Shipping would only be about $8.00. I'll sell the old one for $45.00 plus shipping.
From zip code 85308
Let me know.
I can send you a pic of it if you want.
Mine is a LHD '53 TD

Here is the mod I did on my new one.
