MG TD TF 1500 - Peter Edney b.h.p. claims

Buy his own admission Peter Edney bench tests his engines before he sends them out. He does not dyno them.So does anyone know how he comes up with his b.h.p. claims. THANKS MICHAEL.
Michael O'Halloran

He probably tested a single prototype with a dyno for performance evaluation For "mass production" he performs only acceptance tests.
Like any other industry.

This is my supposition.

Laurent.

Laurent the problem with your supposition is that the engine i'am referring to is the 1st built of this engine that he built for me. MICHAEL.
Michael O'Halloran

Michael if you really want the answer, then I suggest you ask Mr Edney your questions instead of asking for third party “suppositions”.
W A Chasser

Was the dipstick chromed? That usually adds power, only a little, but every little bit counts.
P G Gilvarry

I agree with Bill, the only person who can answer this is Peter Edney.

I have dealt with Peter Edney and his father Gorge Edney on a few occasions. He has (in some circles) a rather tainted reputation, and my experiences receiving goods from Peter is that you must exercise caution, have good paperwork and know your rights!

Kind regards,

Recently when talking to La Verne Downey he made the astute observation that over the past yr. in getting parts from England to restore his triumph he received a bunch of junk and feels this is done on purpose by some suppliers because by being way over on this side of the pond we cannot show up at their doorstep and complain and bitch in person. Just some food for thought. MICHAEL IN THE USA.
Michael O'Halloran

I have bought a lot from the UK from different suppliers, Burlen, B & G, MWS, and several small suppliers over the last 4 years.

I have never felt the quality was less than suppliers in the USA, often the price was less and the service better. I usually establish contact first and gauge their response.

I am amazed when I see products on EBay here in the USA, clearly sourced from Moss and marked up 15-20%. There must be people out there that pay those prices. I shop with LBCARCO, usually 15% under Moss prices, all but one product was from Moss.

For service it is hard to beat Abington Spares, my Monday order is installed on Wednesday often.

With the Brexit turmoil the UK pound is low, I have taken advantage of that frequently, parts arrive in a week or 10 days.

I have never had any problems with UK (New) parts suppliers, I will plug Brown & Gammons for the correct nuts, bolts and screws, as close to original I could find, good prices and shipping! Here in the states I use Abingdon Spares, LBC and Moss. If I was to buy a used part here, I would check with Abingdon Spares first, you know what your getting, then pot luck. PJ

Why don't owners source supplies from clubs? I'm specifically referring to in the case of MGs The MG Octagon Car Club.Besides being run by MG car owners with a wealth of knowledge and experience I've never known them not stand by the product supplied. Have others found otherwise?
JK Mazgaj

let's go back to the question guys.

It may be prediction models.
Compression ratio increases X BHP
Bore increase brings Y BHP
Extractor...

I have dealt with Peter Edney and was always very happy with both him and his products. I think it is quite useful for this forum to advise members about problems with certain products and vendors. I don't, however, feel that it is appropriate to pursue personal claims in this forum at least until resolved.

I, as most surviving retailers, work hard to serve our customers well. Still we all occasionally have unhappy customers. As long as the customer was willing to work with us we always tried our best to "make it right". Suggesting that English suppliers, which one assumes is meant to include Mr. Edney, are shipping junk to the USA is scurrilous, not appropriate and doesn't seem to indicate a customer trying to work out a solution.
W Worden

Well said, Mr Worden.
Gene Gillam

Thank you Mr Worden!!!

I haven't dealt with Peter Edney but I know people who have, and they were very happy. That isn't to say that there wasn't a problem with Michael's engine, and without Peter's side of the story we can't make a judgement here even if we wanted to. I will say that I've ordered quite a lot from the UK and haven't had any more quality issues than I've had ordering from anywhere else, including the USA.
Steve Simmons

To all posters I have entered into discussions with Peter Edney and at this point things are going well. It appears this problem is going to be worked out in a favorable manner and if it does I will post a response here. MICHAEL
