MG TD TF 1500 - Piping

Looking for a source for the TD front apron piping in green. I have the piping for the rest of the car already.

Also if anyone has an extra fan spacer I could use one. Thanks!
Steve Simmons

Steve, I found the original front piping on the TD 1250 to be the same size as the rest of the car for what ever that's worth.

Steve, are you asking about the bit between the pully and the fan (Moss part 434-070)? If so, I have one that you can have for the price of postage from SC to SoCal.

Make it yourself by taking the cord out of a piece of the piping that you used on the rest of the body and replace it with a 1/4" inch diameter cord. This will result in a 9/32" outside dimension. The regular piping uses a 3/8" inch core.

Jud, that's very kind of you. Let me know how to contact you off list.

Chris, I'm so buried in projects that I'd rather just buy a couple feet, and I don't have any piping on hand at all to use or modify. In a worst case scenario I'll make it but I figured someone must sell the stuff!

LaVerne, I've always thought the apron piping was slightly smaller?
Steve Simmons

Steve, if this is what you want, contact me at jchapin3atAOLdotcom. The spacer weighs 9.1 ounces (258 grams). I wouldn't think postage would be very much. I can't swear to it but I have no reason not to think this is an original part from TD 25009 (1953).

Steve: La Verne is quoting a very early car. Most TDs did have the smaller piping up front.

I am assuming you were not replacing the other piping so you don't need to match.

I am not aware of any commercial organization that sells the smaller piping or even would be aware of it. Its really a simple task for that short of piping to replace it with a small piece of filling.

My knowledge of TD minutia isn't that great so I thought all TDs had the same smaller piping at the apron. If the large stuff is correct for a '53 then that would make it easier.
Steve Simmons

The large stuff is only correct for a 49. But again, if you have the large stuff, just pull out the cord and still a smaller piece of rope in it. Easy - Peasy.

The TD parts places in the UK, only sell the same size piping for the TD. When I inquired about a smaller size for the front, the two places I was working with said they never heard of that.

You can order green from NTG (mgbits.com) Shipping to the US is not bad, and you will probably pay less even with shipping.

But then, they also sell woven webbing for the radiator to hood. That is sold as rubber here in the states.
