MG TD TF 1500 - Progress
It’s been a long time since I posted, but there has been progress on my ‘50 TD. These are the original colors, as taken from areas that didn’t get covered by a subsequent paint jobs, and matched by a PPG technician. The fenders, etc appear dead on Woodland Green to me and the body, cowl and bonnet I believe are the illusive Almond Green. I am convinced that, based on fine sanding down to the black primer, these are the original colors of the car. I will gladly share the paint codes if I can ever get my painter to cough up the codes. As of now, he thinks they are his.
Engine, trans, chassis and rear end are all ready to go. I hope to have the car back together before the end of the year. Regards, Bill ![]() |

Nice job on your TD Bill. I like the quality of your paint work and the careful masking off of the interior before panel spraying. Congrats. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Congrats on reaching an important milestone Bill! Your paint looks GREAT! I've always said the paint was the top of the mountain in the restoration journey and now it's all down the slope now. Now that your paint is done, now you've got to get into the nitty details to get the car finished right. This is a great group of people to ask those questions. What do you have in mind for interior? Kind regards, Frank TF 1414 |

What paint method is this? Base + clear? What brand? Looks great from here! Ed |

Interesting colors Bill. The Early 50 TD I have been helping with was also originally a tutone green The tub looks close to what you have but not the wings and both were metallic.

Bill - fantastic colour and magic looking car I'd be very interested in the formula used for the Almond Green it's just what I've been looking out for for my Y I was given a formula here a while back but it was way too dark,it turned out that it was an Aston Martin Almond Green, which appears to have changed blends several times over the years, your's looks spot on in my eyes- |

The paint is base/clear and the brand is PPG I believe. I’m going back with the original Apple Green from Moss. I will post paint formulas when/if I can get them. Thanks for the nice comments. |

Bill. I would love your woodland green formula if you can send it. Your car is 479 younger than mine. December build date? I am now convinced mine was woodland green originally despite what the paint lists say. In a conversation with Anders Claussager he said that his paint dates most likely are not correct. My car also had an Apple Green interior. The two tone is a great find and I am glad you went back to it. cunhab52 at gmail dot com |

Sorry, I don’t have the paint formulas yet... |

I was lucky with my 1500 TF when painted the painter had the presence of mind to attach a note of the formula on the interior high up on the firewall. Discovered when working converting from LHD to RHD. Seemed a good idea noting it on the vehicle. |

Bill you are making great progress and I am glad you decided to go with these two colors. Of course if they release the formulas to you I will post them. |
