MG TD TF 1500 - Protective Covering on Wiring Loom
I am trying to document some of the places that had PVC or rubber protective coverings on the wiring looms. You can see the list I have here: https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_details_wiring.htm Scroll down to the protective covering section. While looking through some old pictures I found an area that I am uncertain of from my car. It was portion of the loom that went behind the pedal box. See picture attached. Do any other cars with their original loom have this covering? ![]() |

Interesting reading Chris. You think the mix of Rubber and PVC was for a purpose? |

Here is where it runs below the oil filter (filter out of focus on the left).![]() |

Chris I move never seen that one M. Never seen that one before either. How long is that piece and it extends from where to where? Any idea if it’s thickness, ID And what type of material used. Anyone making contributions to this thread it would be helpful to know your chassis #s as well Bill Chasser TD/c-8151 |

I'll offer up these two hot battery leads that came with the TD 1250. The red paint was overspray from repaint, but I would suspect that these were original to the car. Notice the additional sheath of rubber near the terminal connection on each. I do not have them here now so I can't determine if that is from the overspray or if it was red rubber used. The same applies to the cloth covering as well. It could be over spray or may have been manufactured with red cloth.

The ground cable was an interesting bit

I'm not sure where this additional coating of rubber was. I would have to get the old harness back here to examine. Which I could do.

You can see the vinyl tube cover on the lines that run to the rear on this piece if you blow it up which matches your photo Chris.

Laverne I believe your pic of the red wire and clips is for the fog lights. The clips attach it to the dumbiron. |

LED: Can you email me the picture you want me to blow up? The web version won't expand nicely. Keep these coming. In general the TF has a lot more of this than the TD does. They probably learned a lot after having to fix rotting or chaffing wiring harnesses on the TDs. |

You folks are really giving me a lot of work to get things "correct" |

A couple photos of TF 6688 posted on this board in the archives that was helpful in my restoration and the routing of the harness to the horns. I know the thread is for vinyl protective coverings for the wiring harness but we should not overlook the vinyl cover to the tach cable from the battery box to the tach reduction gear box. I will post in another post since only two pictures can be done. Frank TF1414 ![]() ![]() |
