MG TD TF 1500 - Pulley

My crankshaft pulley has a couple of small chips on the inside flange, likely from a puller (see picture). I am planning on using it but I thought I would get opinions here first.
There doesn't seem to be any roughness in the groove that would chew up a belt.
Any thoughts?

Hi !
I've been driving a car (not an MG with a pulley that had a very big chip on the flange. It never chewed the belt albeit 30 years old !
I've changed the pulley but the belt still remains in use !

In my opinion and based on my experience no problem.

I'd try & repair it Bill. Maybe JB Weld might even do the job. While it's out have a good close look at the keyway as they all seem to crack there. I took mine off to check it & sure enough it was cracked. Cheers

I drove my TD for years with more like a hunk cracked out, that I broke attempting to remove a timing cover bolt. No problems from that, but eventually the keyway cracked. A few years ago the Brown and Gammons sourced pulley I got from Abingdon looked like machined from billet and the Moss ones looked like a rough porous casting. Not sure who had what today.

My machinist had me replace the pulley a few months back when he found a near-invisible crack in the keyway. I would check very carefully for any damage there. Otherwise, I would agree that outer chips are probably not much of an issue.
My replacement was from Moss and looked pretty good to me, well made, not porous.

We have the same issue with Sunbeam Alpine and early Mazda (MX5) Miata pulleys. I would recommend anyone rebuilding an older engine should magnaflux their crank pulley. Also, if it it's the harmonic type with the rubber cast in between the inner hub and outer rim you need to check for runout as the rubber on these older pulleys is now perishing and allowing the outer rim with the V-belt groove to slip. The one on my Alpine engine looked perfect until I was getting it balanced - the shop sent it back to me as it had a nasty wobble in the outer rim where it had slipped.

Thanks for all your input.
I can't find any cracks using only a magnifying glass. Although I realize magnaflux or dye would be a more definitive test I will reuse the pulley and will probably try a JB Weld repair which will be mostly cosmetic I suppose.
(no harmonic balancer on this TD!)

Here's a link to the Brown and Gammons pulley just in case anybody needs it.
