MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator alignment

I was attaching the stay tubes to the car today. I noted when I got to the radiator attachment, I had to pull the radiator in (towards the back of the car) a bit to get the bracket to fit.

I know the upper bracket has an adjustment, so that got me thinking. What is correct radiator alignment? Should the radiator be perfectly 90 degrees to the frame? or is it not important until you get the shell and hood on and then adjust to fit the hood edge.
Bruce Cunha

The correct alignment is a parallel plane with the edge of the bonnet and the bead on the shell.

And don't forget the bottom radiator rest bracket is offset front to back. Smaller of the two sides to the front.

What they did on the line and what you have to do now are two different things, since the bulkhead and bonnet are already fitted and painted. The correct position today is the one that gives the nicest shut lines for the bonnet! But yes, the factory position is roughly 90-degrees.
Steve Simmons

I remember reading somewhere that, on the production line, the radiator was fitted then the front edges of the four bonnet panels were trimmed to fit.

Front and rear edges of all 4 were trimmed to fit at the factory.

NOS bonnet panels are longer at each edge.
Rod Brayshaw

I put both new side panels on the TF. placed the bonnet in position then trimmed the side panels to fit. Both were too long. Fortunatly I had the use of a large sheet metal shear to cut them. PJ

I actually had to weld a leading edge to the left bonnet vertical panel because it was too short. That's when I found out that "burn through" could trigger the colorful language I learned in the Army. If I was doing it today I would buy a panel.
