MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Restoration

Can anyone recommend a good radiator restoration shop. East or Central US would probably be best for shipping purposes. Thanks.

Bill,
I had mine done in real old time local radio shop in Linden, New Jersey. I brought the radiator from my TD to them to have the two core replaced by a 3 core. I was trying to control the occasional 105°C readings on my gauge.
They said it would be no problem. When I arrived home I got a phone call from them telling me that their supplier had a four core radiator that would fit with a very slight modification. As I recall a flange in the shell had to be bent to accommodate the four core radiator. They used the top and bottom of my radiator so all the fittings were the same. You cannot tell it from an original. It is one of the best modifications I have made.
In many thousands of miles since then I have yet to see the needle get past 85 to 90°C.
It has been about five years ago since I did this project. If you are interested you can't call and see if they are still in business.

Hi Bill,

The one I used is out of business for the TF unfortunately.

However when I was doing the project for the '72 Maserati Ghibli for cleaning and treatment the twin fuel tanks, I got this lead.

No website so you will have to call.

My son sells CAT equipment and he told me to contact a local CAT dealer and ask who they use. They charged me $50 bucks. They laughed when I brought that small radiator in. Works great.

When I had mine redone, I used a local shop in Coos Bay, OR. I was crossing the parking lot with the radiator in hand, still about 150 feet away from the shop when the old repair guy, Chip, called out, "Ahhh, T Series MG". There is a time when you want to find one of the grizzled old guys with the gray hair! He did a great job, although, to be honest, I haven't run it yet.

Bill,
I have had excellent work on my TF radiator performed by Brock's Radiator and Welding, 11310 Hwy 17, Lavonia, GA 20553. phone 706 356 4114 Five years ago he completely rebuilt the radiator while my car was down for restoration. The core had to be ordered from Michigan and the total turn time was less than two weeks. A couple years later a fairly new water pump let go and the fan punctured the radiator. Mr Brock repaired the damage in less than three days and it looks like new and does not run over 85 C. As of now, I have about 6000 miles on the radiator and I am a happy customer.

Good luck,
