MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Shell Fasteners - TF

Gentlemen,

The one part of my car that came to me without most of its fasteners was the radiator shell. With little to go on I could use a little help in this area. There appear to be many different types of fasteners used. BSF bolts, Philips flathead screws (cut short) and maybe other types of s/m screws.

I'm hoping maybe someone took some good notes with pictures that I could beg for.

Thanks, Dan

Dan Nordstrom

The small countersunk holes are for countersunk self tapping screws (consensus seems to be that they are Phillps crosshead type). The other large holes are for BSF bolts.

I just went through this. I found #10X1/2 SS blunt point screws that work perfectly.

As already pointed out the bolt holes are for attaching the wings 5/16 BSF.

JE, where did you find the blunt pointed screws? Thanks, John

JR, Local fastener supply house happened to have the pan head that attach the side pieces to the radiator in blunt point but didn't have the CS flat heads and I didn't want to wait for a special order so I simply knocked the points off with a grinder. They don't show but the points will catch on anything that goes near them.

Years ago when I was working as an aircraft mechanic we called them type B screws, which indicated a blunt point. They have an MS or NAS number that escapes me now but it's a 100 degree flat head design.
JE Carroll

Thank you JE. I also resorted to grinding the point off SS counter sunk screws.

Dan,

Re the Radiator Shell to Radiator attaching panels, the correct type screws I obtained from an aircraft supplier. The countersunk angle is the important aspect. I have seen 'bonnet rage' from owners when they discover that the incorrect screws have scored /rubbed their gleaming new under bonnet paint!

Thank you all.

I think I now have enough information to proceed.
As I continue to dig through the various boxes of parts that came with the car I am finding what appear to be the fasteners described in your responses. I may very well have them all. That would be nice.

Thanks again.
