MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator slats.
What have I done! My TD, which I imported from the US, had an after market radiator grill. It was a bit like the ones found on the pre 1936 MGs,but the mesh was of a heavier gauge. It didn't look quite right. I needed to replace the water pump and in order to get to it I removed the radiator. Good opportunity to replace the mesh with slats. So far so good. The plan was to paint the slats to match the tan interior. I trial fitted the slats before they were painted and decided not to paint them, but to have them chromed. They are now with the chromers. What do you all think? Will I be struck off this board? Lionel TD3490. |

The late TDII had the slats chromed. Make what you will of that! |

Interesting. My TD, built 11 Feb 53, has painted slats although I have no way of knowing if they are original. TFs have, per Clausanger, chrome slats and in highschool I had a friend who said his slats were painted chrome but I've never seen chrome slats. Nonetheless L.F., it's your car and the chrome will probably look spiffy. Jud |

They YT had chrome slats, but the regular TD had slats normally painted interior color (there were some color combinations where the slats were painted body color. The later TD/C had chrome slats. |

Thank you all for your comments. I know it is daft, but I am pleased that no one has taken me to task or criticised my plan. Lionel TD3490 |
