MG TD TF 1500 - Rear Bonnet Rest Rubber- P Hehir

Hi,

Peter could you tell the width of the flat main section of the rear bonnet rest rubber you procured from a Sydney supplier ? Also could you reiterate who the supplier was ? I remember you saying they supplied the correct profile.

Cheers and thanks.

I'll have to dig it out Rob. I put it where I wouldn't have any trouble finding it. Just have to remember where that is :-) Cheers

Rob and peter I have been restoring TF4571 over the last 18 months in adelaide . I had a moss version of the bonnet rubber which didn't fit very well. In got in touch with the rubber company in Sydney to obtain the rubber mentioned on previous discussions , they had closed & the new owners were out of stock. They were going to advise when back in stock & around $40. Still waiting for the call 3 months later. I went to Fitch the rubber man (a company here in adelaide , rubber in stock fitted perfect & cost about $15. Our TF is just about to go through registration, can't wait to get it on the road. Hi Peter and Chris,

Thankyou for your input re the TF real bonnet rest rubber.

I had a look at the Fitch site and could not locate the item required in the Catalogue. Did their rubber have the correct profile Chris?

NTG UK look to have the 'flat" profile. I may have to contact them.

Cheers

The rubber from Fitch had the correct profile, the beaded section has a downwards lip which some owners trim off prior to installation, the rubber I bought was slightly thinner in the flat section approx 1/8th inch compared to 3/16th and was a lot softer than the Moss one supplied by LBCarco this meant it would mold better to the tub shape even around the curved corners at the top. When compared to the rubber removed from the car it was the same profile. I secured it about every 2 inches and was pleased with the result. Fitch refer to it as scuttle rubber 515 in their on line catalogue.
