MG TD TF 1500 - Rear Fender
I got the left rear fender stripped today. I am using Black Hawk paint stripping disks on my mini grinder to remove the paint.
The disks run $34 for a five pack. There are less expensive ones, but I have not tried them. It took 1 1/2 disks to strip off 48 year old Imeron paint. It also required stripping off tar based undercoating that was on the bottom of the fender. The whole fender took under an hour to fully strip. Fender is in really good condition. A few minor dings, but they came right out with a little metal work. ![]() |

Imron painbt is a bear to remove. Chemical strippers do nothing, and even sandblasting has little effect! Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Brake fluid seems to take off Imron from my experience. :-) |

Got it in SEM Self Etching primer today. Started on the other fender. The stripper pads do nice work of removing the old paint, and any body filler. Looks like I will be spending a bit more time on the Right fender. Looks like it may have had some minor booboos in the past. But it is improving my panel beater skills. Peter. That is what mine looked like prior to removing the paint. |

Bruce you going back to Ivory? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Hi Peter. While I did like the Ivory, it was not the car's original color. For this restoration, I am trying to bring it back to how it would have been at the dealer (or my interpretation of that). The car was a dark green. That in itself is a conundrum in that 1950 TD's were only supposed to be Almond Green. Woodland Green appears to be what it was, with a apple green interior. |
