MG TD TF 1500 - Rear main bearing cap question
What are the three screws in this rear main bearing cap for? I can't find a good picture of this part so I don't know if they are standard. Thanks. Tim TD12524 ![]() |

Looks like it has been converted for a modern lip seal. You may need to check that the scroll seal area has not been machined away. This is done on some conversions and makes it unusable in a standard engine. It can still be used with a conversion kit though. Ray TF 2884 |

Thanks Ray. This is how I found the cap when I disassembled the engine. Nothing was attached to the screws. The scroll area is still intact. The engine did leak copious amount of oil from the rear so I'll be looking for a solution for that problem. Regards Tim |

Some one probably mounted a upper oil thrower to the main bearing cap. Here is a very good web site for the oil leaks http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/oilleaks.shtml feel free to call or E mail me, as I have just done this on a customers engine, and my engine does not leak oil using the OEM rear Archimedes screw system. Hi all, I rebuilt my engine with a front lip seal and the standard rear seal, although it has only a few hours running, and a sump off and on, (that's another story) it doesn't leak any oil, and yes, there is oil in it. Regards, Don TF 4887 "Figaro" |
