MG TD TF 1500 - Reclining eats with head rests in a TF?

This may raise a few eyebrows from the purists, but I am not satisfied with the seat comfort in the TF, and therefore seriously considering to find a pair of replacement seats, preferably reclining ones with head rests, so that I could install inertia reel seat belts with a sliding attachment to the head rest stalk(s)

Does anyone on this list have any experience with this kind of sacrilege in the name of comfort and maybe a little bit of safety?

regards,

Jan

Sorry, should be SEATS and not EATS in the thread title, but no way of changing that..

Hi Jan,

Why not look at seats from a modern MG TF/F or a Mazda MX5? They aren't too big and there are many versions in leather. If you were to fit ones from a MG there would still be brand loyalty and UK scrapyards are littered with modern TF/Fs. Also if you are coming over to the Silverstone MG event you would certainly find seats on one of the stalls.

Thank you Jan. I would probably have to look for F/TF or MX5 seats in the UK, not many of those cars in Norwegian breakers yards.

Holden vintage have a reclining seat with head rest that might be ok:

(It is probably made by a company called Corbeau)

Silvestone would be fun!

In Germany or even Holland (www.rover-mg-onderdelen.nl / info@rover-mg-onderdelen.nl) there should be enough F/TF or MX5 seats?

Or buy a Morgan? ;-)
Willem van der Veer

A Morgan would be "a bridge to far", wouldnt it? But thank you for all ideas!

Jan, I installed 3 point inertial reel seatbelts by adding a rollbar with headrests directly behind the seats. Perhaps you could do that and install reclining seats as well? The reclining seats don't offer an attachment point for the shoulder that would meet any safety standards in any case...
Geoffrey M Baker

I would tend to agree with Goeff. The roll bar is what you need if you want seat belts, especially shoulder harness ones.
Christopher Couper

I realize that a roll bar would be the best solution when it comes to safety, but I find roll bars on a T series as aesthetically much, much worse than seats with head rests.
