MG TD TF 1500 - Removing Clutch Fork
The fork on the shaft has a pin in it, I need to remove the fork and shaft to use on the High Gear bell housing. Question, is the pin tapered so it comes out only one way? It appears to have a small portion sticking out on one side, is it removed from the other side? Don't want to damage it! PJ |

The pin is tapered. Remove it toward the bit sticking out. |

I had a heck of a time getting that out. For whatever reason, putting one back in was even harder. In fact, I gave up and used a roll pin. Jim |

The Hi-Gear kit includes a new roll pin. Regards Declan |

Thanks Fellas, Much appreciated info! I didn't know High Gear included one in the kit, it isn't on the list. For those who don't know, here's what were talking about. PJ![]() |

There is also a key in there. Regards Declan |

Ok, the unit is out of the bell housing and disassembled. Note, the pin is wider in the front than the rear, so must be driven out from the back. Very easy job, the hardest part was removing the circlip on the end of the shaft! PJ![]() |

The holes in the fork and shaft are tapered. If using a roll pin, they should be drilled straight. You don't HAVE to, but it's a good idea. |

Steve, The pin is in perfect condition as is the rest of the parts, so I'm planning to use it on re-assembly.
Well, there's no rush, High Gear emailed me yesterday and informed me that my transmission probably won't get to me until the end of February! Seems the maker of the driveshafts just got supplies in and has to fill 600 orders, they won't be able to get High Gears orders of 75 filled for another two months! I would imagine that the container ship mess contributed to the a lot to late shipments to the manufacturer. Oh well, what else is new! |

The pin will be fine, it is only there to keep the fork central, the key takes the load. Ray TF 2884 |

Ray, I was thinking a drop of LockTite might not be a bad idea on the pin, but when it came out there wasn't anything on it, it was as clean as it is in the photo. |

I have been drilling and reaming taper pin holes since the early 50's and have never used a compound. Once they are in,they are in. I always file a slot in the thick end to remind me which end to drift out. Ray |
