MG TD TF 1500 - Replace Pushrod Tubes

Anybody have any experience doing this when the pushrod tubes are corroded from the heads being in poor storage?

Thanks very much.

Do you mean the inserts in the head itself? Can't you just hone them clean? They are simply pressed in, so shouldn't be too hard to replace.

The tubes corroded on the outside, are thin and need replacement. I just wondered if anyone else had encountered this, and how they sealed the tubes against oil leaks.

they were probably sealed in place with a tube roller like boiler and condenser tubes.
Do you know any steam traction engine groups or refrigeration engineers as they will have the tools.
A plumbers tube-expander would probably do the job with some sealant.
I spent many unhappy hours expanding tubes on live boilers in the merchant marine, ( health and safety would have heart attacks now)

The only time I've seen them replaced, they were simply pressed in place, and it was done to accommodate larger push rods. There is zero oil pressure, so I doubt there would be any leak at all. A bit of green locktite would probably give even greater assurance against leaks.

My original head now in my attic had a couple leaky tubes, from the top down. Don't remember how I sealed. I picked up a used head a few years ago and a couple tubes were indeed rusted through. Any ideas how to press one out of a head? I have a couple heads I could remove a couple from. Abingdon had those many years ago. George

You may be able to pull them out with a bolt, depending on how tight they are. Or press them out with a stepped piece of aluminum. Or mill them out worst case. Not sure how tough it will be though since I've never tired. Maybe someone else here has and can comment.

Wouldn't drilling them out, be easy?
