MG TD TF 1500 - Rockers 14' vs 14 7/8' specs
We will soon be sorting parts for a spare XPAG engine this weekend. I have a bucket of used rockers to separate for size and wondered where I can find the answer to the casting #'s for the different rockers & shafts. I've looked in the Moss book and only see that 14" is different. I've also looked in the owners manual and can't find it there either. Is there anyplace that spells this out. TIA Russ |

Russ, the factory part numbers are shown in the 'old' Abingdon Spares catalogs on page 5. In case you don't have one, here's the list: Rocker #4 and #8, TC-Early TD, Part # SA2213/4 Rocker #4 and #8, Late TD-TF, Part # SA2213/5 Rocker #1 and #5, TC-Early TD, Part # SA2214/4 Rocker #1 and #5, Late TD-TF, Part # SA2214/5 Rocker #2 and #6, TC-TD-TF, Part # SA2215/4 Rocker #3 and #7, TC-TD-TF, Part # SA2216/4 Bud |

Anybody have a rocker from which they can read the casting number? Bud |

Russ, Horst Schach's restoration manual has diagrams and casting numbers for both rocker shafts on pages 91 and 92. Sandy |

Great. That should answer Russ' question. Bud |

RD - perfect, thank you! What was your source in case I ever need the info again? Russ |

Russ, It is in the Horst Schach's restoration manual like Sandy said.. :) Rod |

What is the general opinion of sealing off the top hole on the rocker and is there any proof this really works? FOG |

All I can say is that I did mine many years ago and got a slight increase in indicated oil pressure with no adverse effects. Maybe in highly loaded conditions the oil cooling effect may help but it certainly makes no difference in the UK climate. Ray TF 2884 |

Ray Does blocking of the top hole help when running the engine with the rocker box off? Do you still need to wear a black plastic bag and cover the wings and everything else - to observe if the pushrods are rotating OK? I have solid bronze spacers between my rockers but the oil still comes out the top plenty. Makes a real mess if you aren't quick. Rod. |

Nope! there is still a load of oil about that the rockers throw everywhere, but at least it does not drip off the garage roof now. Ray TF 2884 |
