MG TD TF 1500 - Running board question

One of my running boards has the braces on the underside spot welded in place. The other running board has the braces secured with flat headed bolts and nuts (see attached photo). Does anyone know which is correct for my 51 TD. Also I had to drill out the bolt heads to remove the braces to repair the running board. If the bolts and nuts are original does anyone know where I can obtain them. I tried FTFU, Moss and Abbington.

Thanks

They were originally spot welded. John

Thanks John. Somebody did a great job cleaning up the spot welds. There is absolutely no indication the braces were ever spot welded.

Hi Tom,

Your small package was posted today from Western Australia! Cheers.

Thanks Rob. I hope you sent it to Tim not Tom. :-)

TW: The spot welds would have been on the top where your bolt heads were. When they drilled them out for the bolts the evidence went with them.

I would think those bolt heads would have kept your running board strips from laying flat. Note that they are held in place by soft, flat headed like solid rivets. They are about 1/4" long on the shank. When pounded from the underside they will hold the strips in place.

BTW the solid rivets go through the holes shown on your picture. Sorry to be giving already known info but many just use some sort of flat headed machine screw instead of the rivets.

Thanks Chris. The braces were held on with flat headed machine screws that were flush with the surface. I had to remove them to repair the running board and two of the screws were loose. There was no way to tighten them because of the flat heads. I removed them all and spot welded the braces back in place. I have all the running board strips but no fasteners. Thanks for the info on those.
