MG TD TF 1500 - Running board strip

I have a friend that is restoring a 53 TD. He has come up with an interesting part. The stips that hold the rubber on the running boards have a groove on the bottom with metal clips in the groove that snap into the holes on the running board.

I only have a picture of the bottom, and have asked him to take more of the top. I have never seen these before.

They were used in the 50/60s in the UK for most body chrome trim strips. Quite often seen on Wheeler Dealers being levered off. Not so good for areas that get bombarded with grit and water.
Probably still available.

With the high cost of the current more readily available bolt variety has anyone found or used/adapted a modern plasic type? Another thought could one be easily and more cheaply made in using a 3D printer?

I cheated, I just cut a strip of copper that would slide into the trim, drilled holes in it and soldered brass round heads into it, cut it into individual pieces and slid them in.
My retirement hourly rate makes it economic. Until I wrote this, nobody knew.

I use original style tapered rivets

Bruce: I think this was just a cleaver paint shop that found an easier to use alternative to the tapered rivets.

The owner clarified that these pictures are from his TF, but the TD had the same clips. His TD is in the body shop. I asked him to see if he can get pictures of the clips on the TD Strips.

Chris. I think that is the case. An interesting adaptation that would make it easy to remove the strips. This actually could be a plus in that you could take the strips off to clean under them to prevent corrosion.

I would wonder if they would roll when stepping on them.

Generally speaking these type of clips are used where there is no access behind a panel
