MG TD TF 1500 - Scuttle/Body Tonneau Posts Positions

As the full tonneau cover is not original to the TD/TF it follows that the posts to secure it to the scuttle & body can be placed wherever they best suit. Four questions.

Is there agreement on how many & where these positions are?
Can anyone supply figured, idiot proof, set out dimensions?
What are the chrome posts with the nut to secure them called?
Where can I get them in Oz?

This is the only task stopping me now from refitting the sub dash & the dash. She's starting to look like a car!

Cheers

Most often in the US, 6 are on the scuttle, one each door. Close to the center/mirror, at the peak of the cowl, and near the edge of the cowl- make sure this one is far enough inward to not hit the side curtains when door is shut with curtains installed. One more on each door to hold the door flap down. Car at home so can't measure now. Called Lift-the-Dots. I have heard the genuine items are better than the repros. Use a nylon washer under studs so paint not chipped. Of course obtain tonneau first to help lay out. There is a purpose built lift-the-dot punch that works great, available often from marine dealers. Peter,

Moss produced a short manual on how and where to place the pegs in the TD.

The manual can be downloaded as a pdf document from the USA site:

Hope it helps.

Thank you gentlemen. I'll check it out Jesus. There were some fitted to the car when I purchased it but the over zealous panel beater brazed up the holes prior to the 1971 respray. I sort of know roughly where some of them were but I wanted some more precise info on exactly where they were placed. The posts (pegs) had a coarse metal screw thread not those with a machine thread that are designed to carry a nut. These seem to me to offer more security. Cheers

Except the for ones behind the seat there can be no agreement because there was no standards. Every person who decided to install a full tonneau was free to do anything they wanted to do, and it was 100% correct unless later they decided it wasn't. :-)

For example I have none on the doors but as Bud states, many do. I also have a regular snap at the bottom of the flap versus a Lift the Dot snap. I have fewer studs on the driver side than passenger side because the person that installed my first cover felt it needed more in case we drove with the passenger side up.

The archives have many posts of opinions one where to best place the studs. I wrote up one myself.

You can get the Lift the Dot studs in either wood screw base or machine screw based. Don't be alarmed if they are not bsf threads.

Hi Peter
Daley's Auto Upholstery Supplies, Millers Road, Villawood have them in stock. Give them a call on 97945700 to check to see if they can supply you with the quantities and type you want. It's a fair hike to go out there on speck.

The information provided by Moss is interesting, but it seems that the pictures are missing. Any explanation ?

I would recommend the Tenax rather than the lift the dot fasteners. They look much more professional and are a lot easier to handle.

C.M.groucho: If you refer to the Moss pdf document whose link I provided, I can see the pictures.

If you cannot, I can send to you the file by email.
