MG TD TF 1500 - seat not locking in place
1950 MG-TD. Right (passenger) seat adjusts fine; arm has tension on it. Left (driver) side adjustment arm has no tension and the seat will not lock in place; it freely slides back and forth. What's the fix? Thank you |

The locking lever, which has a "prong" that fits into a row of holes is held locked by a retaining spring. Is your there? You can easily check by lifting the seat bottom up by the rear and looking under. You may or may not need to remove the back. Jim B. |

Tnx much Jim. I figured it had a spring, but didn't see one in the parts catalog. And I don't seem to be having any luck lifting the seat. It slides well forward (so it's not catching on the seat back) but it does not want to flip up. Does it take a lot of force, ie, should I stick a jack handle under it or something? Bruce |

Put a little oil on the hinges. If the seat will slide forward can you make sure someone has not fastened the tracks down at the rear? |

Jim, I trust that you've removed the backrest. If you til the passenger seat up you should be able to see the spring and catch mechanism. Bud |

An update.......I removed the seat back. The rear of the tracks are clearly bolted to the floor on both the passenger and drivers side. All I get by trying to flip the seat up from the rear is movement in the floor board! So, I'll remove the bolts holding the tracks down and see what happens. Tnx for the help. |

Not having any luck posting a pic from the phone. Will try later from the desk top. |

OK, lets see if this works.

My seats tracks are only bolted to the floor at the hinge in front. This allows the bottom to be flipped forward. Also there should be a hinge that bolts to the rear of the seat base and engages a slot on the rear of the seat back on both passenger and drivers side. There should be a small diameter albeit stiff return spring about 3-4" long that hooks into the lever and upper seat track to lock it into position. Your spring is either missing, broke or in hooked Bill Chasser TD 4834 |

See Moss Catalog #MGT-143, Page 54, Seat Components. You're missing Part 314, Hinge, seat back to cushion. It goes into part #15, Sleeve, seat back hinge. #15 should be on your seat back (2 of them). Bud |

Ok, got it. Missing parts, floor boards are loose and tracks are incorrectly bolted in the rear. I live 35 miles from Moss Motors in Petersburg VA, so looks like I'll be making a road trip. Thanks for all the help. |
