MG TD TF 1500 - Seat Positioning

I am going to reset the seats on the floor boards.
As you can see from the Photo I have two questions.

1-Should the tapered edge be towards the door or towards the driveshaft tunnel?

2-Should the latch be towards the door or the driveshaft tunnel?

TIA,
Mort

M Resnicoff

Mort I think that the answer to 2 is towards the door. Dunno about 1. The other variable is the location of the leather side. I believe this should be closest to the door & so be visible when the door is opened. Cheers

Tapered side to the door, as the tub curves in and the shaft tunnel is straight. I can't remember about levers , car is at home so can't check right now. George

Mort,
Here's a photo of my driver's seat (LHD) which I rebuilt.
The taper is towards the door and so is the lever.

Thank you gentlemen,
Putting the tapered edge towards the door seemed appropriate because of the curve of the tub. The photo above is from the drivers side of my LHD car and has obviously been installed improperly by a PO.

As to the latch, I can't see any mechanical or operational reason to favor one side or the other. It seems that most latches are on the door side of the seat. My preference would be towards the tunnel and thus moving it out of the way of entry and exit. I don't think it's a big deal either way unless someone knows of a good reason not to put it by the tunnel.

Originally the latch was toward the door, but putting it on the other side avoids catching it on entry and exit. Functionality remains the same. Dave H

So on Mort's pic above which of the two different coverings is the leather? I'd always believed that the front & the door side of the seat were the leather & that the vinyl ran along the handbrake side & the back. Is that not so? It does seem to me that the vinyl on Mort's seat is on the door (tapered) side. Cheers

When I went and looked into Lazarus to see about the taper I spotted the same thing. The short, non-leather, section of the cover is on the tunnel side of the seat. Bud

Yes, looks like the cover is on the wrong base, leather should be out and front, along the taper.

Obviously my car was made special because the seats are leather all the way around.

Mort I assumed that the two different colours of the material visible on the underside of your seat indicated leather & vinyl. It's often difficult to get a perfect colour match between the two so it's not unusual to see a mismatch. These seats were originally made with a combination of both, with the vinyl being used on the tunnel side & rear as well as the back of the seat back. Is your leather the same colour or does it just appear to be different in the pic? Not being critical, just curious is all. Cheers

It's the same leather all the way around. Any visual differences are strictly photographic. Obviously some PO replaced the original.
