MG TD TF 1500 - sequencing reconstruction

It's a big day for 'Frankie" aka TD2103. After way too long a period of time, the rest of its body works have returned from the painter. The two front wings, running boards, its bonnet and front and rear splash pans are finally home waiting to reunite with the rest of the car...

So, i was hoping that someone might share their thoughts on how i should sequence the hanging the front wings, running boards, splash pans and bonnet to the rest of the car. Specifically, should i start with the running boards and work my way forward, or should i start with the front wings.

Right now the tub, rear wings, fuel tank, and doors are all together and looking fine.

So what do you think. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Tom Crause

With the rear wings on, start forward from there. Running boards, front fenders, splash pans, bumpers, hood, is how I do it.

Don't tighten any bolts until its all together.

If the engine is out, wait to install the wings.
Wings and front splash it last on the list.

First, make sure the door gaps are good and the tub is securely bolted to the frame, with a good door gap. Rear fenders, grille hood. Place the front fenders on, hang them with the hood latches. Make sure the figment of the hood and grille is good before proceeding. Bolt the runningboard to the front and rear fenders. Adjust so there is a continuous line from the top of the front fender to the termination of the runningboard. Once everything is lined up, then you can drill and bolt the fenders and runningboards to the tub.
Be well,

Agree about engine if out, and other great suggestions. I would not install running boards until interior installed, as they are in the way and there is a great chance of damaging them.

As you don't mention the fuel tank & doors I guess you've got that sorted. If not, that's definitely where I'd start, with the wheels on the ground & a bag of sand over the rear of the tub. This approximates fuel in the tank. Critical to ensure the doors both sit nicely in the opening & close properly before moving on to the guards. Cheers
