MG TD TF 1500 - Shock shock
Out for a wee burst yesterday in Betsy when POW , largest stone hit the rear fender that I had ever heard, Got to the next stop and there was copious oil dripping down off the inside off the fender. Shock oil. Back home , wheel off, and it appears the metal plug on the side of the shock had blown out. I assume it was a pressure fit. So I screwed in a machine threaded screw with thin faucet washer and refilled.with 20 weight motorcycle shock oil. After checking for smooth full range operation its on and working fine ( so far ) with apparently no defects !? I am hoping it was just a freak failure. Cheers, Keith |

Keith, This is the first time I have heard of the metal plug getting blown out,, what type shocks do you have ? Who rebuilt them ? Steve |

Never heard of that either, those MG shocks are pretty much bullet proof. Be very interesting though to know what caused it. PJ |

Hi Steve They are armstrong shocks and were rebuilt by apple about 8 years ago. They have been trouble free up to now. Still working good today after the " McGuiver" fix Cheers All, Keith |

Keith, So it is the screwed in plug at the valve that got blown out ?? Steve |

No , actually it was the pressed in plug half way down the front of the armstrong shock . It faces out on a 45 degree angle. It is installed during the manufacturing process I beleive. |
