MG TD TF 1500 - Side Curtain Box Hinges

My hinges were totaly rusted and deeply pitted after cleaning, so they don't look good when painted, and I broke one hinge pin trying to unfreeze one of them. Is there an "outside" source for these hinges (other than Moss, et al)? They appear to be pretty common. Why are they countersunk if they take hexhead screws?

Mine came from a local hardware store. Brass.

Mine are secured with FH to the vertical board FH machine screws, not hex head.


I believe the securing to the horizontal boards is wood screws on mine. Your FH screws appear to be 1/2-20 not BSF.

The pics below shows an original door & hinge. The machine screws & T nuts are clearly visible in the door. I also agree with Jim in that the other hinge leaf was probably screwed to the floor with countersunk screws but as my nephew tossed out my original 3 pieces that made up the rear floor, I can't be certain. Hmm, I'll hunt around locally for the hinges. My 8 screws were all hexhead, (4 short for the metal brace and 4 longer for the lid) (upper photo) although the CS screws would have been a better idea.

I believe you are the owner of a TD, there is a thread in the Archive where I requested hinge details for my TF, many members responded there may be something TD related amongst the posts.

They're side curtain lid hinges for a TF. I'd like to put CS screws on, but all restorations I've seen are with hexhead screws. Guess I'll hunt around today for hinges.

On my early TF 1414 the hinges did have hex head just like the hardware you show in your picture.

Brass hinges can be had at Lowes. Just take an old one with you. What I did. PJ
