MG TD TF 1500 - Side Curtain Felt

I used brown craft paper to make a template of my rear side curtain compartment (TD). I used the Moss diagram and measured out the box and the backboard.

I purchased the black felt from NTG. It comes in a roll that appears to be two yards.

The issue I ran into is the roll is 36" wide. This is too narrow to make the liner as a single piece. I ended up making it in two pieces.

This should not be an issue as the place they meet is the back edge. As Bill Chasser pointed out in another post, this also makes it better if you ever have to remove the side curtain compartment.

I also made a jig out of a 2x4 with a handle to push the material down into the bottom of the compartment.

Start the install tomorrow.

I got the back and the compartment done. I pre-fit it and marked alignment marks on the material to assure when I glued it, I would get it in the correct position. I started on the top back edge and glued it to the top. I then lifted the material and sprayed the back side and the bottom. I then put the felt over those areas.

Once I got that in (I used the 2x4 to fit the bottom), I pushed the front felt to the back and sprayed the front side. Last was the sides.

The sides of the back will get glued down once I get the interior material to cover the fenderwell.

I will do the upper shallow sides tomorrow.

I think if I were to do it again, when I made the template, I would add enough material to the flap that covers the compartment side to cover the floor of the shallow sides so there is no seam at the edge.

I used the Moss pattern as my guide, but it does not address the shallow side areas

I used this as a guide for cutting the felt, Bruce

I did not roll the felt over the front sheet metal but cut it flush with the top of the deck boards. I found a photo of the door stop which shows the position of the screw hole. The folds on the vinyl match the original material I removed. I had to open up the fender well holes just a bit because I could not get the fender well screws in place without doing so. The thicker vinyl push it up just enough to cause a problem. I suggest you check that fit if you are planning on running the felt full length on top of the metal.

Using the original fender covers for a guide...the vinyl ends where the back of the door stop sits and I stopped with the felt at that point.

Others have done a better job but I can live with this.

Thats all I have.

Laverne you did a nice job.

I'm not totally happy with mine. I think I will redo the corners.

If I were to do the whole thing again, as I said. I would extend the top of the two edges in the pattern so it rolls over the edge and fills in the bottom of the sides.

As for your upholstery. That is exactly what Dave Silva told me to do. Put in the fender well upholstery, bolt up the side curtain wood, and cut the upholstery at the back edge of the wood.

I like your thoughts on cutting the material at the edge of the rear floor. I am going to do that also.
